Create Source Preview on Hover

My client has a nutrition research website, where he publishes scientific findings, etc.

He wants to achieve a similar effect as in Wikipedia, where you can preview the source and click on it when you hover on the citation mark.

Here’s an image that illustrates this effect:

Any suggestions on how to do this with X theme?

That’s basically a tooltip function. We have a tooltip shortcode that can be used to display tooltips. I suggest you to take a look at following demo page for more information:
