Where do I add images? Do I add them to tags, categories, or directly into the portfolio page?
What’s the difference between tags and categories?
I want to re-create this page, but instead of having the static headers and corresponding images (http://www.publicistforhire.com/pinnacle-performance-company-2/), I want to use the portfolio functionality to allow visitors to sort based on category: speaking engagement, award, media relations, etc.
It depends on what is the purpose of your image. Feature image is what show on top of portfolio item and image on portfolio index page. If you want as part of the content that is fine. In case you choose gallery, upload it via Portfolio content but do not insert it . That will make the image attached on portfolio item and that is where the slider will get content.
Thanks, Lely. I’m still confused. I know how to upload the Feature Image. I don’t know where to upload the images to create a portfolio. The directions from this page are vague - https://theme.co/apex/forum/t/creating-a-portfolio-page/1826/4. They say:
To add a portfolio item go to Portfolio > Add New Item enter in the title you want to show for that portfolio item along with a description. If you scroll further down the page you’ll see the portfolio item settings for that specific portfolio entry. Once you’ve configured the settings as you want, go ahead and publish the item.
It skips the step on telling you where to load the images or how to make sure they fit the appropriate categories. Do you upload images in the Portfolio Categories or directly into the Portfolio page?
I think there’s a misunderstanding here. Would you mind clarifying what you want to achieve?
Just for clarification, portfolio is a custom post type. Like blog, there is Portfolio index page where it list/display all portfolio item. When we create a page on Pages > Add New , then select Layout - Portfolio as page template on the right part, this page will be our portfolio index page. Now, everytime we add Portfolio item, it will be included on that index page unless it is more than amount of item stated or you have filtered it to display specific category only.
When we click on portfolio item from the list, it will go then to portfolio item page. Each portfolio item can be included to a portfolio categories or portfolio tag. Those image is part of portfolio item. A portfolio item can have a featured image that can be shown as on the portfolio index page. Aside from that, we can also add image inside content area. Then on each Portfolio Item, there’s a Portfolio Item Settings and you can see the following options:
Media type will determine which will display on top of your portfolio item page.
Featured Content will determine what will display on portfolio index page.
Now I think the question is what do you mean by create a portfolio ? When you say portfolio do you mean gallery of images? Because the portfolio we are talking to is a custom post type which I describe above. Now if you will give us a screenshot of what you are trying to achieve that would be better.
