Create overlapping sections and/or rows?

Hi, I’m trying to create content that is partly overlapping the bottom of one section (bg image) and then partly overlapping into a below section (bg solid color).

Is there a way to acheive this affect? I’m trying to have a color box container with images and text in it overlap from the header image (girl jumping) down into a color background (dark grey) section below. As if the image was one long bg image that faded to grey and elements could be placed ontop on any point of the height.
