Create custom sidebar for categories

Hey. I’m … I’m honestly surprised this isn’t in the X core but, how do I create a Appearance - Sidebar that appears on particular categories that I choose?

I’d like to set a few different custom sidebars for ALL posts within a category, as compared to choosing each post individually which is both awkward and difficult in the Appearance menu.

For example, I have a category called ‘From the Quest of Peter Fae’ and another called ‘From the Quest - Yeshua Lucis’, another which says ‘The Journey Home’, another which says ‘The Seed Within’, another which says ‘Physics of the Quest’ and I’d like a different sidebar for each of these.

Is this not a common question? I’m confused. Either way, I tried to figure it out and I looked at this article --> https://theme.co/apex/forums/topic/create-sidebar-for-post-category/

But wasn’t sure. Some help interpreting this please for my situation?

Thank you. P.S. Could this be a feature in an X update? It seems like it would be very helpful.

Hey Peter,

You can actually create a custom sidebar in the admin area and assign it to a category.

Please go to Appearance > Sidebars then create the sidebar from there:

Once the sidebar is created, you should be able to add widgets to it in Appearance > Widgets.

Hope this helps.

Yah that doesn’t seem to be happening

This is a sidebar that I assigned to the category taxonomy, FTQ - Yeshua Lucis. Yet it doesn’t show up. Neither do other sidebars I assign

Hi Peter,

I’ve checked your category and the sidebar is displaying fine:

I’ve also created a new sidebar for Academy category and it’s working fine as well:

Could you please double check?

Thanks.

Ah. Yes. That’s true. What I want is the sidebar on all the posts in a particular category as well.

Hi Peter,

Regretfully this isn’t a feature offered by X. It could be possible with custom development, but this would be outside the scope of support we can offer. You may wish to consult a developer to assist you with this. X is quite extensible with child themes, so there are plenty of possibilities.

Thanks for understanding. Take care!
