I feel like this is a noob question but I’ve worked far too long on this and I don’t have much to show for it. I have two types of posts (podcasts and blog posts). I wanted to have like a recent posts for each type on the home page but I cannot figure out how to make it happen. I tried creating custom post types. Then I tried to do it using categories. I’m not sure how is the best way to go about this.

It’s best that you go with a separate post type for your Podcasts like what you have now.
To display Recent Posts for the Blog, you can use the Recent Posts Looper Provider. You can see how it’s done here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dfhD5M8A8As
For the Podcasts, you need to use the Query Builder Looper Provider. The usage is also shown in the tutorial video above.
