Cornerstone 'The preview could not load'

Hi,

I’ve been having issues with cornerstone and randomly get this message ‘The preview could not load. This is most often related to a plugin conflict or aggressive page cacheing. Checking the developer console for errors could indicate what went wrong.’

The Home page was working fine then just stopped.

I have read through previous posts and done everything suggested from deactivating plugins to updating to later php, clearing cache and increased file size but I still can’t get this to work.

Do you think it’s a hosting issue.

Many thanks
Mark

Hello Mark,

Thanks for writing in!

I tried checking the website but it seems that you have activated under-construction page. As you have already completed the preliminary troubleshooting steps and Cornerstone is not loading, please share the website login details in secure note for us to take a closer look at the setup.

Thanks.

Hello Mark,

Thanks for providing the information. I have logged in and investigated your issue. When I edit a page using Cornerstone, there is an Error 500 happening when loading the preview. An error 500 could mean a fatal error. Can you please enable the debug mode? You can do this by opening wp-config.php and adding

define('WP_DEBUG', true);

/* That's all, stop editing! Happy blogging. */

When you edit the page again, you should have some error output describing the issue in more detail. If nothing is displaying especially in the console, please provide us your FTP details so that we can check the files and hopefully fix this for you.

Please let us know how it goes.

Hi Rue Nel,
I’ve added the define(‘WP_DEBUG’, true); to my config.php but it’s not showing any-more error details. I think there is an issue with my wp files. This site had been up for years and I just stripped it back, updated wp and installed the xtheme. I’m not worried about the content, and to save you guys time I think deleting the whole thing and starting again with a fresh install of wordpress and your theme is the way forward… don’t you think?

Regards

Mark

Hello Mark,

I tried to login via FTP. The error log on this install is not updated. Last entry was last year november 21 2018. No record of the error here. Please check your server log instead. See this: https://screencast-o-matic.com/watch/cq1Il4TgNV

This issue has now been resolved, it was caused by mod_security rules and was fixed by my hosting company.

Many thanks for your help on this.

Mark

You’re always welcome Mark!

Cheers.
