Cornerstone/Pro Breaks if Elementor is Installed

Hi guys,

I have a client site running Pro theme and also Elementor. I was told that they are fully compatible together, and they had been running fine together before. Until now!

I have a page that was built in Pro. However, when I go to edit it in the Pro builder, it loads for a bit before giving the following error:

image

It says “No suitable preview area found. This could happen when a third party plugin is overrinding (sic) the content area of “The Content” is not being output by the current layout.”

Weirdly, the content area actually does load. But when I click to edit it, I get a Pro message that says, “Would you like to go edit this Page?”

And I click “Yes, Proceed” and nothing happens.

It used to work just fine, even with both.

A few notes:

  1. Weirdly, it doesn’t affect all pages. Most load just fine.

  2. The elementor plugins and Pro theme are all updated to the newest versions.

While typing this up, I did find a solution, though it doesn’t explain much. I figure I’ll post here for posterity.

An “editor” had edited the page before, and editors did not have access to use Cornerstone, so I’m not sure exactly how/what she edited. I think maybe she had changed it to Elementor or something. I had to restore the page to a revision from before she touched it, and it started coming up again.

What’s weird, though, is that all the content in Elementor was Cornerstone content, so it didn’t work in Elementor, either. It just showed a bunch of shortcodes.

Either way, I guess I solved my own problem, though you may want to look into this and maybe update those very confusing error messages. Especially that weird typo.

Thank you!

Hey @brianjohnsondesign,

When other pages worked and others didn’t tells us that there’s no conflict. That means you can use either Elementor or Cornerstone but not both. That’s maybe when the issue started. You can’t switch editors and there is no dedicated error message that will tell if a page has been edited with Elementor as we have no integration with Elementor.

The “No suitable preview…” message tell us that either there’s no content area or the content area has been taken over by other 3rd party plugins and/or scripts so you need to investigate why that is by checking the settings of your pages and plugins.

Hope that helps.
