Cornerstone Preview Error - Help! Can't edit ANY page

Hey guys, I’ve done some extensive testing to attempt to fix this and still can’t get it to work.

Here’s a high level:

  • I can Launch the cornerstone edit from X > Launch.
  • I can view Templates and Theme Options
  • I can view “content” and click the pages to ‘view’ the pages
  • The moment I click “edit” on a page, it never loads. It shows the cornerstone loading gif then shows the script error. When I open up console, I get a “preview timeout” error with a bunch of stuff when I drill it down. I included those below.
  • One thing I saw randomly on a page load in Cornerstone when I got the error was a “520 error” on the cornerstone-endpoint. It appeared to be a Cloudflare error at the time with a cloudflare message when I clicked “response” under Network. but now it’s loading just fine with 200 status.
  • I tried creating a brand new page and using Cornerstone on that and still got the error

Things I tried to fix this but nothing worked:

  • I switched to X (instead of X Child)
  • I deleted X, downloaded again from my Dashboard, and uploaded the files via FTP for X Theme
  • I reinstalled WordPress - first from Dashboard > Updates and then directly through FTP
  • Disabled all plugins
  • I’m using Cloudflare, so I put the site in Development mode.

Nothing worked.

Here’s a look at my system:

  • The site is SSL on admin and front end. I have an SSL plugin that forces SSL across the site and also have Cloudflare set up to force SSL (my SSL is also through Cloudflare… their paid SSL… not the free one and my site is set to “full (strict)”
  • Running Cloudflare and WP Rocket. I have WP Rocket deactivated and Cloudflare in development mode
  • I added page rules to Cloudflare thinking that might be the culprit - Browser Cache TTL - 30 minutes, Always Online: off, Cache Level: bypass, Disable Performance. That’s all applied to https://domain.com/x/*

Here are the errors:

This was working a couple days ago, then we started having issues with Cornerstone - it saying it saved content but didn’t really save it (but we could at least see the editor and use it) and now today we can’t use Cornerstone at all.

I’ll send admin access in a private message.

Thank you!!

Hello There,

Thanks for writing in! I have checked your site and even if WP Rocket is disabled, rocketscript is still working in your site. You may have minified the JS and CSS in CloudFlare. Please go to CloudFlare > Speed tab and disable the minify feature for JS and CSS. Purge everything and please do a test again.

We would loved to know if this has work for you. Thank you.

Woohoo!!! That fixed it! Thank you so much. I didn’t have the auto-minify settings set in Cloudflare, but the culprit was “Rocket Loader” was set to “automatic”. I turned it off and now Cornerstone is working!

Glad to hear it’s sorted.

Cheers!

Hello - I am having the same issue.

The site is brand new but I keep getting this error now and it won’t allow me to continue the build. There are no plugins on the site other than Cornerstone. The only change I’ve made is add two line of CSS to make the background of the header fit with the background of my logo.

Can you please have a look.

Thanks

Hello There,

Thanks for updating this thread and for the very detailed post information. I have log in to your site and I did not encounter an issue. I was able to edit several of your pages. Please check out my screenshot: http://prntscr.com/gs74ol

By the way, are you experiencing the issue on a particular page? Could you please provide the url of the page you were editing? Please keep in mind that you cannot edit the page assigned as your Posts Page or any page that is using a Layout - Portfolio page template.

Please let us know how it goes.
