Cornerstone Post, Page Build and Preview Issues

Hi All,

We have a site running WordPress 5.6.1 running [X-Child] theme. And we are running into some issues lately with Cornerstone as follows:

  • Have lost the ability to use Cornerstone for Post content type (formerly was able to use page builder for Posts and Pages)
  • Can retroactively edit Pages that were created using the page builder, but can only edit within the existing elements, or duplicate them to continue using classic elements + structure only.
  • Cannot see or use any new Cornerstone builder elements (non Classic elements); must start a new page from existing page template created via Cornerstone.
    • Builder preview does not show or react to any activity for new elements, page structure additions. Remains empty.
    • Builder does not show preview of background media in the editor, but such is visible on the front end.

Hi @cbotello,

Thanks for reaching out.
I have investigated most of the sites listed in your Themeco Account and found that you are still using the older version of X i.e. 4.6.4 and the Cornerstone version 5.1.5. The issue you are facing might be due to the incompatibility between X and Cornerstone.
I would suggest you update the X and Cornerstone by following the below steps.

  1. Delete the Cornerstone
  2. Update the X theme to the latest version on automatic updates or manually
  3. After the X theme is updated, use the link in the dashboard to automatically install the Cornerstone. It will be at the latest version

If that does not resolve the issue, I would suggest you troubleshot a few common issues to find the reason behind them.

1.Plugin Conflict
2.Child Theme Related issue
3.CSS/JS Customization
4.Disabling Cache

If you discover that an issue is coming from a custom code or 3rd party plugin, kindly consult with a developer or contact the plugin author. Please note that we do not provide support for custom codes and 3rd party plugins.
If none of the above help, please provide login credentials for your site in a secure note to examine it further, including:

– WordPress Site URL & Login URL
– WordPress Admin username/password

Thanks

Hi @tristup,

The site is live. We want to know if there is any impact on the site when we delete the cornerstone from the live site. Will this need any re-setup post deletion/updation.

Do we have to take backup…?
Do we have to re-setup the X theme post updation… .?
We just want to know the implications of performing the specified steps.

Hi Chris,

There are always uncertainty when doing updates, specially if your version gets a few update behind.

In case like this, I would suggest that you setup/clone a staging server, where you do the updating first. Not only with X and Cornerstone but also WordPress and Plugins. These way you can troubleshot issues that may occur without affecting the live site.

To answer your questions.

  • Yes, it is a good practice to take a backup before doing major updates on the site.
  • No, there is nothing to re-setup in the theme.
  • Your site will become updated, less bugs, and avoid incompatibility issues. You might need to adjust a few things on your child theme, depends on how customize your child theme is.

Cheers,
