Cornerstone Loading Issues

Dear X Theme Team,

First of all thank you for the amazing work you guys do. I’ve had most of my questions answered by visiting the support forum before because of how thorough you guys are. However, I’ve run into a roadblock that I can’t seem to find a solution for.

My website runs and loads fine, however when I go to edit content in Cornerstone it gets hung up. I’m in Google Chrome, and the little blue loading bar towards the top of the page seems to get to 99% complete before sitting there for roughly 2-3 minutes. Eventually it seems to “load”, but it only loads portions of the content. It’s the strangest thing because if I reload the webpage or open it in a different browser, I seem to get different load results everytime. The only constant is the fact that it gets hung up at 99%.

Here’s what I’ve tried so far:

  1. Disabling any cache plug-ins (I had none).
  2. Double checking server for any cache plug-ins (none that I can see).
  3. Disabling plug-ins one by one to see if there are any conflicts.
  4. Raising the Wordpress PHP memory cap to max admin, with no effect.

Everything that I’ve tried is from other posts that have similar problems but none that are quite like this. What’s strange is that this problem seemed to occur out of no where. It was working fine for months, then suddenly it wasn’t, and I couldn’t make changes to the website. Send help!

Thank you,

Hi there,

Thanks for writing in.

Have you updated the Wordpress? Or perhaps your host imposed some limitations recently? I’d like to check what you’re currently getting. Please provide your site’s URL and login credentials in a secure note. Maybe I could find something through network logs.

Thanks!

The problem occurred prior to updating WordPress, so I updated it in hopes that it would fix. Shockingly, it didn’t.

Hey Peter,

I opened your home page in Cornerstone and it loaded fine. I tried editing and saving and encountered no issues. I removed the period after your first headline.

Please clear your browser’s cache and check again. Also try in incognito mode and other browsers.

Thanks.

Alright, so I’ve cleared my cache on Safari, Firefox, and Chrome. I also did private/incognito mode for all of them with no change. I’m going to try on a different machine, and if that doesn’t work I’ll try somewhere else as our internet here has been spotty recently.

Will reply shortly with results!

Thank you for your cooperation. Let us know how it goes.

So I’ve tried accessing the website from multiple browsers, devices, and connections. No matter what I’ve done so far it still results in the same “99% load” error. I’ll keep digging around to see if I can find anything. Here’s an image of what it looks like on my end from my laptop:

That is weird because it works on my end so I could not really trace the issue because it is working. I’ll pass this along to my colleagues to see if it happens on their end.

Hi there,

Another staff here, I checked and it’s really slow even by loading an empty builder. I also deactivated the plugins and still the same. But let’s try this first, please update your PHP to 5.6 or greater than let’s check it again.

Are you on shared hosting?

Thanks!

I’ve contacted our hosting provider to see what they can do, since the current PHP version is 5.4.24. I’ll let you guys know what they say.

You can see WordPress requires the latest PHP version https://wordpress.org/about/requirements/

It’s better if you update to 7.0+. If not, at least 5.6

Thanks.
