Cornerstone is not working after updating x theme and cornerstone

Hello.
I’m new to the forums and this is my first post. I recently restored my site from a backup dated 12th December 2019. After the restore, the site did not look the same because it had lost the fonts and colour formatting. I then updated X theme to version 7.1.2 and Cornerstone to version 4.1.2 hoping that it would fix the problem. It seemed to work until I tried editing. I found that I cannot edit any of the pages using Cornerstone. Each time I try, I get the black spinning icon but nothing happens. I read somewhere on the forums that the updated theme may have issues with Cornerstone because I’m on an older version of Wordpress (4.9.13)

I have not updated Wordpress because I was advised that I should not because my site may not work properly. Would you have any advice on how I should proceed? Should I update Wordpress to 5.3.2 which appears to be the latest version? Appreciate any help you can give me
Best regards
Vairam

HI Varaim,

had the same problem last month. The plugin autoptimize was the problem. Also I red a lot of other plugins made this problem at some other people. So maybe you try to put of some plugins and try to get it started again.

Best regards

Hello @Vairam,

Thanks for writing in! After doing the updates, always remember to clear all caches (if you are using Autoptimize, WP Rocket, WP SuperCache or W3 Total Cache) when updating so that the code from the latest release is always in use. This will help you to avoid any potential errors.

And please clear your browser cache too. You may use private browsing mode in testing your site to make sure that you are viewing the latest codes from the updates and not the cached version in your browser.

And please make sure that your WordPress core is also up to date. We recommend that your WordPress core is at least two versions behind the latest. In your case, 4.9 may no longer work when using X theme 7.1.2.

@patsorules:
Thanks for chiming in!

Thank you for the suggestions @RueNel and @patsorules. I’m not using any cache optimisers. I have cleared my browser cache but is there any other cache that I need to clear?

I have Aldo disabled all my plugins - Akismet Anti-Spam, Hello Dolly, Wordfence Security, Slider Revolution.
I will try updating Wordpress today. Is there any way I can upgrade to 2 versions before the latest?

Many thanks in advance

Hi Vairam,

The latest version of PRO, X and Cornerstone are not going to work with Wordpress 4.9.13. You will either need to update WordPress to the latest version, or you could download the stability release of Pro from your dashboard page to get the previous version of the theme.

In this case, specifically, WordPress added many javascript dependencies like React, ReactDOM and Babel part of WordPress core. It is best practice to always use libraries bundled with WordPress when possible, which is why they were removed from Pro. This is why Pro doesn’t load because many of the required scripts are unavailable.

Updating WordPress

Remember to clear all your caching features (plugin, server-side, CDN, and browser’s cache) after updating so that the code from the latest release is always in use. This will help you to avoid any potential errors.

Have a nice day,
Cheers!

Ok. I understand. I will update the Wordpress core after I have a backup of the site.
Many thanks @friech

Let us know how it goes,

Cheers!
