Cornerstone images out of nowhere

Customize portion of the x theme not opening. Cornerstone will not open a page either. I have deactivated every plugin and made sure the theme and all plugins are updated. The site has been working fine for ever. I went in to make a quick css update when I discovered I could not access the Customize portion of the theme.

Please advise. Thank you.

Hi Keith,

Thank you for writing in, there are JS errors on your site that is conflicting with Cornerstone/Theme Options.

Please do testing for a plugin conflict. You can do this by deactivating all third party plugins, and seeing if the problem remains. If it’s fixed, you’ll know a plugin caused the problem, and you can narrow down which one by reactivating them one at a time.

If that did not work, try switching to parent X theme, the script that is conflicting might be on your child theme.

Let us know how it goes,
Cheers!

There was a deferred scripts snippet in the child theme functions.php file. What is another way to defer js without clashing with x theme? Any resources you have for increasing the performance of the x theme would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Hello Keith,

We have an article for that in our docs.

Please check it here: https://theme.co/docs/how-to-improve-site-performance

Hope this helps.

I am experiencing the same thing on another client site. There is no script in the htaccess like the previous site. I have deactivated all plugins and tried again but no success. Can you please look at this for me. Thank you for directing me to the source of the other issue. I hope this one is as easy.

I will forward dashboard access momentarily. Thanks again.

Hi Keith,

The X version you have on that site is not up to date, while the Cornerstone is updated.

Please update your X to the latest version (7.2.3 as of this writing)

How to Update

Remember to clear all your caching features (plugin, server-side, CDN, and browser’s cache) after updating so that the code from the latest release is always in use. This will help you to avoid any potential errors.

Hope it helps,
Cheers!

The update for X was not there when I was working on this issue. Trust me, I cleared cache and did everything I could to ensure that it was current. Now, I am still having the issue when trying to go to customize settings or access page content. When this happened the last time you debugged and it showed exactly what the issue was. Why is X theme and Cornerstone in particular getting so buggy? I have been using it for years and these issues were much less frequent.

Please advise. Thank you.

When I use the dev tools in chrome, the error is almost identical with one exception. It mentions JQMIGRATE??? Not sure that is what it is but it appears to be the difference. There is no deferred scripts in the htaccess on this one. Thanks.

Hey Keith,

There is a defer script in your child theme. That is causing the issue. I tested the parent theme and the Theme Options worked.

Please hire a developer to fix the child theme and don’t forget to test the child theme next time by simply activating the parent theme and testing if the issue persists.

Thanks.
