Cornerstone Editor not working anymore after chenging http links to https links using DB Find/replace

Hi,
this topic is a continue of ths topic:
https://theme.co/apex/forum/t/sections-not-visible-anymore-inside-cornerstone-editor/35300

I still do not have a solution from your support.

In my last question you told me not to use DB Search and Replace Tools and not to use page revision…
Therefore please read this post from one of your collegues:
https://theme.co/apex/forum/t/lost-all-content-from-a-cornerstone-page-how-to-recover/12356/2

Here you are telling us it is supported to use page revisions…
So what is fact now?

I did not get a solution yet - rebuilding the page again from scratch is not an option. Please advise how to make Cornerstone working again.
I will give you login creds but please make the page running again!

Best Regards

Hello RocknRole,

Thanks for asking.

  1. I suggest you to roll back the website to the state when it was working. Then use Velvet Blues Update URLs plugin to find and replace URLs related to http and https.
  2. Regarding revisions, though it’s supported but please note that every change into the builder is not tracked. Sometime it may miss since revisions are primarily for post content and not for post meta. So, it’s not a recommended thing. That being said, in the new version of X Theme (6.3.1) has history function (undo/redo), builder remembers and shows the changes you have done on the page and depending on the requirement you can rollback to the earlier state just by click of a button. So technically, revision is not required.

If you would like to learn more about History feature, please take a look at our Changelog page.

Here’s the Velvet Blues Update URLs plugin link and tutorial for the same:

Thanks.

Hello Prasant,
thank you for the quick reply.
Unfortunately I cannot roll back, because we do not have a backup from this point.
Also the site I gave you the login creds ist quite simple and COULD be rebuild manually.
But we also have licensed X and Cornerstone for a subdomain where the content cannot be edited also - same problem with cornerstone…
This site is quite complex and it would take as 2-3 days to rebuild it.
So please help us to find a way making cornerstoine working again without re-building both sites from scratch.
If we have to do that, I am just thinking about switching to another solution which may be more robust against (syntactical correct!) changes inside WP Text editor and/or DB Content

Please help.
Best Regards

Hi @rocknrole,

The reason we recommend restoring is we think that your data are already corrupted due to URL replacements. And fixing corrupted data could take forever or not even possible. Wordpress stored data in the serialized manner so it should be edited and replace safely, and not because the theme saved it that way. Any part of the Wordpress site could break if the serialized data related to it is broken.

And because of this, we always recommend testing all updates, maintenances, redesign, http to https, and any major changes of the site into a staging. Don’t do it in a live site, or don’t do it without a backup. It would be the same regardless of the platform, theme, or plugin you’re in.

Thanks for understanding.

Hi Rad,
so how do you advise me to proceed?
I do not have a proper backup to go back - so you are telling me know the only way to get further is to set up the two sites again?
Please confirm or tell me waht you need to help us out here.
Best Regards
Roland

Hi @rocknrole,

Have your hosting provider have the back-up? Some host has that, but some aren’t free.

We couldn’t fix the corrupted data as well so if a back up is not really available, the re-doing it is the only option left.

But once you get the backup and set-up to the staging, then we could help to check that setup.

Thanks!
