Cornerstone editor loads, then 404 page appears

Hello,

I have a problem with Cornerstone on one of my sites: Whenever I try to edit a page, Cornerstone loads and briefly, the page appears for editing, then it quickly jumps to a 404 page.

I have created a video recording showing exactly what happens. I’ll add a secret note to this file after this post.

I have updated plugins, Pro theme and Wordpress to the latest version. I have tested for plugin conflicts and can’t find any issues. I also use this theme and all the same plugins on many websites without this problem. In Chrome’s console, the only unusual error I can see is this, but I am unsure if this is related:

“failedto load resource: https://domain.com/srcdoc

Please advise how I might find a fix for this.

Thanks for your help.

Hi @littleshock,

By withdrawing the post, I believe you already have resolved the issue. If the issue still existed, you can let us know.

Thanks.

Hi @tristup - sorry, that removal was an error when i was trying to post the secret note. The original post is still an issue.

Hi @littleshock,

There might be some different reasons behind your issue, and I would like to suggest troubleshooting the following common issue to help us to recognize the reason.

  1. Theme Related Issue
  2. Plugin Conflict
  3. Theme Update related issue
  4. Child Theme Related issue ** if you have activated.
  5. CSS/JS Customization
  6. Disabling Cache
  7. Disabling CDN
  8. Increasing PHP Memory Limit

If you discover that an issue is coming from a custom code or 3rd party plugin, kindly consult with a developer or contact the plugin author. Please note that we do not provide support for custom codes and 3rd party plugins.
If that does not help, please provide login credentials for your site in a secure note to examine it further, including:

– WordPress Site URL & Login URL
– WordPress Admin username/password

Thanks

Hello @tristup, thanks for the reply.

I use Pro / X a lot and I am aware of all the normal fixes. I have:

  • Disabled plugins, one by one, no issues
  • Removed and reinstalled Pro Theme
  • Downgraded to an older version of Pro Theme
  • Removed all custom CSS and JS, tested, then reenabled
  • Disabled CDN provided by Jetpack
  • Disabled my cache plugin
  • I don’t have a child theme
  • PHP memory limit is on 1GB

The only odd thing I can see is that I keep getting 404 hits for this file: https://domain.com/srcdoc - something I have not seen before - and I run a lot of websites using Pro / X

I have set you up with an admin account, I’ll add a secret note with the details now.

Hi again @tristup - I have finally found the issue! I am updating this for others, in case they have the same problem.

There was a script running in the header of the website that was calling in a 3rd party widget. When I disabled this Cornerstone loads successfully.

Can I ask if there is anyway I can exclude the script from running on cornerstone preview pages but have it run on the live site?

Hi @littleshock,

Glad that you are able to find the reason behind your problem. Unfortunately, there is no way to exclude specific scripts.

Thanks
