Cornerstone - Edit Post Accessibility

Hi,

As always, thank you for the ongoing assistance.

I am trying to create a new blog post to one of our websites using Cornerstone. However, I have been unable to access Cornerstone to do it.

When I click on ‘Add a New Post’ there is usually the cornerstone tab in the right-hand corner (along with visual and text) - it is now missing (see image below - highlighted by a red box)

Furthermore, when I look at the currently published blogs, I can see that the feature images selected are not appearing (see below image)

I also can’t seem to edit any already published blogs with cornerstone either (see below image). I have usually been able to open any page or post and click X and the option for “edit with cornerstone” appears. As you can see now it only says “cornerstone”.

I can’t understand what has happened. I have added a video link in the secure note to show you these issues further.

Your help in fixing this problem is greatly appreciated.

Furthermore, I have now also noticed that when I look at blog posts that are scheduled in Edit Post, it looks like the blogs have been edited outside of Cornerstone, which is not the case.

All this work was done in Cornerstone (the last edit was made 24 May - today 1 June), and now is not editable within cornerstone (see below image), it’s only visible in edit post - I am very lost as to what has happened here.

Hi,

  1. Cornerstone was somehow disabled. I went ahead and enabled it under X > Settings

  1. With regards to featured image, I can’t seem to replicate this issue on my end.

Can you try re-adding your featured image, remove it then add again.

If that doesn’t help, you can try adding this in Theme options > CSS

.x-recent-posts .no-post-thumbnail .x-recent-posts-img:after {
    opacity: 0;
}

.x-recent-posts .no-post-thumbnail .x-recent-posts-img:after {
    opacity: 0;
}

Hi,

  1. Solved. Thanks
    We never changed these permissions. More specifically I never even had seen that interface.
    What does Enforce text only mean?? Which options should I choose?

  2. Not solved.
    Re-added the image, still invisible. Can’t add css because…(see below)

  3. New problem:
    Theme Options > CSS : CSS is not an option

    Far more concerning, when I go to Customiser>Custom>Global CSS, which I always use (NOT THEME OPTIONS), there is no css functionality anymore.

I’ve double checked with some of my other X websites; no problem there. See >Custom

What is going on?

I appreciate your prompt feedback as this is an urgent matter.

Hi There,

Those issues have been fixed in the latest version of X and Cornerstone ( X 6.1.3 & CS 3.1.3).

Could you please update your theme & plugin to the latest version?

Hi

It still doesn’t work, and I’ve updated both theme and plugins incl Cornerstone.

I need to make changes to the CSS today and I do not have access to it. This stresses me out to a level I hopefully don’t have to explain to you.

To make things worse, now it seems my other websites have been affected by this too.

  1. No featured images appearing in Recent Blog Posts section

  2. Custom css GONE in customiser, instead it looks like this for one of my other websites. This is not workable.

  3. For the website I initially mentioned this, NO custom field at all - log in to view what I mean.

  4. For another client, X>Settings now looks like this:

  5. What happened to Cornerstone? It seems like half of the functionality has disappeared?

What we used to have - can’t even fully screengrab it.

Just some feedback from an otherwise raving fan of X:

  • You can’t just keep making changes all the time. It takes time to adapt to new interfaces and new functionalities. It took time for me to getting used to the major update. I finally was, and I loved it. Now, it seems to be gone.
  • With every website, I create tutorials for both my team and clients. Major updates like these (from massive functionality to almost back as it was but different), require tutorial updates.
  • It’s a reason for me to start looking elsewhere. It feels like you are never satisfied with what is. I usually embrace change but I don’t see any logic in this change. Just my two cents.

I checked and your featured images are showing up fine

  1. Custom CSS is under X > Theme Options > CSS

  1. Not sure what you mean Custom Field, please clarify

  1. Not sure what is missing. I checked in your site and this is how cornerstone image element settings looks like this which is correct

Kindly make sure that you have the latest version X 6.1.3, Cornerstone 3.1.3 and that you have cleared your plugin cache and browser cache after the update.

Hi Team,

Ok, a couple of things seem to have been resolved. However, the main functionality of cornerstone is still gone.

This is also happening for me on another website which is still in development.

I’ve created a video showing the issue and I’m comparing it with one of our other websites which still has all functionality. Please watch it and tell me what I should do.

This is because of the new “Advanced Mode” feature. All of the elements now have simpler controls, but you can still access the original more advanced control set by clicking the settings icon in the bar and enabling Advanced Mode.

I would recommend reading over the changelog for this update (http://theme.co/changelog/). All of these changes are explained there.

Hi Alexander, wow, that is a major update. Ok, this resolves it then. Just one more question:
Edit Global CSS is now standard under X>ThemeOptions>CSS? Isn’t that a step backwards?

Ok, my two cents here: create a facebook group to communicate this sort of stuff. Why?

Not everyone is a hardcore technical Wordpress person checking the changelog all the time.
Your major point of difference is that X serves large non-technical audiences; hence the reason why you built Cornerstone; a drag and drop visual builder enabling the masses to create websites.

To reach the masses you will have to do more than adding changes in changelogs.
This issue almost caused me to move away from X because I thought you guys had totally disappeared: the huge FB group I was a member of has been archived, and I couldn’t find anything online, and the forum support is not instant so, I recommend having different channels to warn people for huge changes. Moving away from Customiser is huge. If you want to do that, you need to tell people and use multiple channels to communicate. 2018, hey?

I agree with a lot of the points made here. From a Xuser point of view - there seem to be major changes and updates happening that are not always thought out before launch. I love X - but am feeling a lot of frustration lately and spending precious non-paid hours relearning the software and coming across glitches. I hope it settles soon.
The reason I ended up on this forum was bc I updated and suddenly had no Cornerstone access on my blogs. Thanks to the notes here I was able to fix, but in the next update be sure to make Posts enabled for Cornerstone.
