Cornerstone Breaking Website with 404s

I am running into an error on my website (Secure note to follow with login details). The website is unable to be edited. I spoke with my hosting provider (WP Engine) and they informed me that somehow Cornerstone was throwing 404s. I’m not sure what is happening.

The only plugins that I’ve used outside of the recommended are Imagify and WP Rocket which don’t fix the issue when deactivated.

Hello Tim,

Thanks for writing in!

I checked the website and tried to edit few pages using Cornerstone. I can confirm the problem of pages not opening in Cornerstone. Further checking the page in dev tool console I can see multiple 404 error messages.

For Example:

Failed to load resource: the server responded with a status of 404 () https://1ejtuk3e3nlut1o8n35vq8b1-wpengine.netdna-ssl.com/wp-content/plugins/cornerstone/assets/dist/css/app/preview.css?ver=3.5.5

Please do following:

  1. From Plugins > Installed Plugins, please deactivate and delete Cornerstone plugin.
  2. Then navigate to X menu in WordPress backend and that will automatically install Cornerstone.
  3. Please make sure to clear cache in WP Rocket.
  4. Edit pages in Cornerstone see if pages are opening and getting edited.

In case other option does not work, please try out following:

  1. From Plugins > Installed Plugins, please deactivate and delete Cornerstone plugin.
  2. Using link shared in secure note, download latest package of Cornerstone plugin.
  3. Upon downloading, extract the file contents using any zip archiver.
  4. Login to FTP and under /wp-content/plugins/, upload the Cornerstone folder.
  5. Edit the pages in Cornerstone and see how it goes.

Let us know how it goes.

Thanks.

I tried the options and no luck. In my staging environment, I turned off my CDN and everything worked perfectly. I’m confused since I use Pro and X with CDNs usually without issue.

It does appear that it was a CDN issue and it has been sorted. Thank you so much for your attention.

Glad to hear that.
