Content wider than screen, Text too small to read and Clickable elements too close together Mobile Usability errors in Google Search Console

Hi There,

I got this error message on Google Search console for my website on 22nd of May, then on the 23rd and 24th I saw a dramatic decrease in website traffic from 800 to 300 and then 12 visitors per day, the URL with error messages in question is https://www.growingreenhouse.com/how-to-get-rid-of-mold-in-greenhouse/

Could you look into this for me, please, and is it a reason why website’s traffic decreased?

Hey Ana,

I checked your site and there’s no area wider than the screen. Your text is 14px and Google might consider that too small. In X/Pro > Theme Options > Typography, try setting the Root Font Size to 16px for mobile screen and higher for desktop.

The close clickable elements could be the Ethos Post Carousel. That is a false report by Google though as it only shows 1 carousel item at a time. If the Google report is important to you, try disabling the Ethos Carousel in Theme Options > Ethos.

Lastly, I do not believe that the mobile usability report is affecting your site’s traffic. We are not experts to comment on that though and that it is beyond the scope of our theme support to cover such questions as there are lots of factors that could affect the website’s traffic.

It’s just safe to say that our theme is surely not the cause of the issue because if this is the case, no website using our themes would rank #1 in Google SERPS which is related to website traffic.

Please consider consulting with an SEO expert with web development knowledge for this.

Hi Christian,

Thank you for getting in touch and having a look at this for me. I sorted out the web traffic issues, as you said it was not related to Mobile Usability report. I made the changes and will see if it improves user experience on mobile devices. In a meantime I have other issues according to Search Console which are under Coverage. The error message is saying ‘Submitted URL has crawl issue’.
