Conditional dynamic content: swap featured image for attached image

Hi. I’m redesigning an old wordpress site with lots of old blog entries. Many of those entries have images embedded into the posts, vs set as featured images. Is there a way to create a condition strategy similar to this one that, if featured is not set, pulls the first image in the post?

Maybe another way to ask: is there a dynamic code for attached image? thx!
