Wanted to ask if X pro and X be compatible with the new wordpress 4.9.8 coming later this year?

Absolutely. X, Cornerstone and Pro theme will always be compatible with the WordPress releases. We will release updates that will ensure that the our theme and page builder tool is always compatible with WordPress.

Actually I would suggest you to take a look our status report wherein @kyle has touched upon range of topics and stuffs our team is working on including WordPress release and Gutenberg.
