Comments not showing on some posts

Hi ThemeCo Gurus,
I just updated to the new release of X Theme and I noticed that the comments section on my posts are not displaying correctly. I am using Disqus for handling the comments.

Here are examples of two posts on my site. One seems to have comments loading fine, and the other does not display them. I can’t seem any common characteristics between the posts that show the comments fine and the ones that don’t.

Links to the two pages will be in the secure notes.

I have tried the following:

  • Disabling all Disqus related plugins. Result: The default wordpress comments still only display on one page, and not the other.
  • Disabling all plugins in general. Same result.
  • Clearing the cache. Same result.
  • Switching to a default wordpress theme (not X Theme). Same result, which is interesting and makes me think it may not be related to X Theme? Though I’m not sure.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you so much!

Hi,

Thanks for writing in!

Since you have already tried what I would have suggested to test.

Would you mind providing us your login credentials in Secure Note

Thanks

Hi Paul,
Thank you so much for getting back to me so quickly! I discovered the issue. Somehow, in the WordPress dashboard under Settings --> Discussion the following option got checked on its own:

[ X ] Automatically close comments on articles older than [28] days.

I unchecked that box and everything came back to normal. I have no idea how this setting got changed, I did not ever change it. I believe I saw somewhere else on your forums that this happened to someone else. I wonder if some update changed the setting inadvertently? Anyway it is fixed now.

For anyone having this issue, check your settings as it may have been changed even though you didn’t touch it. I attached a screenshot to help others. Thank you for being willing to help Paul!

Hi John,

Glad you were able to resolve the issue. I have checked our issue tracker, but I could not find any related issue with X theme updates.

Make sure that you’re using the latest version of WordPress core as well, to avoid incompatibility issues. You can check the latest version number from here (https://wordpress.org/download/) and update accordingly if necessary (https://codex.wordpress.org/Upgrading_WordPress).

Thanks!
