In Cornerstone we have the option to fade in columns as they come into view. The effect appears to be triggered based on a percentage depth into the column with respect to the top of the column. This is not under the control of the designer. My request is to add an option to set the “in view percentage before trigger” capability.
Here’s why this is important. As designed today, the implementation works well in scenarios that fade content while scrolling. The delay in triggering is masked by the motion of the scroll. However, a poor UX is observed today on in-view content that is freshly loaded or slowly scrolls above the fold; it remains opaque until the scroll depth percentage is hit. This is particularly troublesome on page loads where section headings in the column are hidden, making the section appear empty or broken.
Here is my suggestion
- (QUICK-FIX) If the column content is above the fold and would otherwise be in-view, then start the animation as soon as the document is ready. This is essential in my opinion.
- (BETTER) Give us control in the Cornerstone layout manager to set the percentage down within the column before the trigger is activated.
- (HACK) Provide the capability to override your setting in code inside our child themes
This is not a new issue. Designers have been frustrated by this for months and you can see it in the forums. I had initially added my comments to to this thread from October and was asked by the Mods to create a fresh one. Hopefully this helps! Thanks.
