but I think adding a bunch JS on all the differents menus and submenus that I have is not the best solution (performance-wise) to be honest.
Please can you provide another solution?

There is actually already an option for the Navigation Collapsed element where you can set the entire link with the submenu indicator to open the submenu or just the submenu indicator.
Just set the Sub Menu Trigger option to Sub Indicator so that you will just need to click the submenu link to open the submenu and the parent menu item will open a page…
