Clicking on the "X" link in wp backend creates critical error

Hi
Not sure if I am describing this clearly enough, the link in the wp backend that simply says “X” and takes to https://domainname.com/wp-admin/admin.php?page=x-addons-home returns a critical error.
Thats the first page I am stuck at.
Recently lost ability to preview content outside corerstone.
Thanks
Sami

Hello Sami,

Thanks for writing in! Are you using PHP 7.4 or PHP 8.0? The current installed Cornerstone and the X theme may not work with PHP 8.0. Please make sure to update to the latest version. Or it is best to clone your site in a staging area so we can do the troubleshooting we would be happy to log in and investigate the issue further to get this issue resolved.

You can create a secure note in your next reply with the following info:
– Link to your site
– WP login URL
– WP username
– WP password
– WP Administrator Role
– Confirmation that we can access and make changes to your site

Ok thanks, will do, cant see the secure note option though… :frowning:

Hi - its PHP: 7.4.33

Hi Sami,

I have checked your website and found that you are still using the X version 9.1.4 and Cornerstone version 6.1.4. I would suggest you update the X and Cornerstone by following the below steps.

  1. Delete the existing Cornerstone.
  2. Update the X theme to the latest version on automatic updates
  3. After the X theme is updated, use the link in the dashboard to automatically install the Cornerstone. It will be on the latest version

If that does not help, there might be some different reasons behind your issue. I would like to suggest troubleshooting the following common issue to help us to recognize the reason.

  1. Theme Related Issue
  2. Plugin Conflict
  3. Theme Update related issue
  4. Child Theme Related issue
  5. CSS/JS Customization
  6. Disabling Cache
  7. Disabling CDN

If you discover that an issue is coming from a custom code or 3rd party plugin, kindly consult with a developer or contact the plugin author. Please note that we do not provide support for custom codes and 3rd party plugins.
If none of the above help, please copy your live site to a staging server so we could troubleshoot freely without breaking your live site.
And give us access in the secure note including:

– WordPress Site URL & Login URL
– WordPress Admin username/password
– FTP/CPanel credentials to access the files.

To create a secure note, click the key icon underneath any of your posts.

Thanks

Ok, thanks I will investigate and follow up - question: " update the X and Cornerstone" "

-> How stable is that process, do I risk any chance of (lets say at what degree from 1-100 may I experience) conflict or error that will cause the side to fail in some other way.

Sami

Hello Sami,

I wouldn’t advise that you update your live site. It is best to clone your live site to a staging server and then you can do the updates in the staging area first. Or, once you have the staging area, we can do the troubleshooting there. By the way, I have looked into your Tools > Site Health > Info > Server, and I am seeing the PHP post max size and Upload max filesize. In some cases, low values can result in an issue. In my local test site, I set it to 128MB. If you want to increase those values, you can check this out:

I did some initial tests and I found out that the Contact Form 7 Designer which is an out dated plugin, by the way, is somehow conflicting with the X theme. Temporarily deactivating the said plugin gets rid of the error when you go to X > Validation page. I left it deactivated so you can check the page.

Best Regards.
