Click instead of hover event

Good morning. I have an issue at www.emilycolin.com where on a touchscreen type of device with a high resolution like an iPad or Surface, where the custom menu buttons don’t work since they open with a mouse hover event. Is there a way to change those to open with a ‘touch’ event, for the lack of a better word?

Thanks for writing in! Please be advised that in touch screen devices, there is no click event. You can trigger the menu items by tapping on it. Tap once to open the submenus in your menu item.

That’s the problem. I’m on an iPad right now and tapping on the ‘Books’ menu item does not open. This is at www.emilycolin.com. You tap on it and nothing happens. That obviously does not work for an authors website.

There seems to be a conflict with another plugin. I see that the AddThis plugin throws many Javascript errors. I also check the website with my iPhone and the mobile menu opens up when tapped on the hamburger menu, but it does not close when tapped again.

Our theme does not have such errors and this seems to be something related to your installation. Please kindly follow the steps below:

  1. Ensure everything is up to date according to our version compatibility list here. Please follow the best practices when updating your theme and plugins. Click here for more information. Newest theme version is 7.2.1, yours is 7.2.0.

  2. Test for a plugin conflict. You can do this by deactivating all third-party plugins, and see if the problem remains. If it’s fixed, you’ll know a plugin caused the problem, and you can narrow down which one by reactivating them one at a time.

  3. Remove custom CSS and Javascript from the options and/or Child Theme and test the case.

  4. If you’re using a CDN, please clear the CDN’s cache and disable optimization services.
