Hi There,

Thanks for writing in! If you were to modify a theme template file directly (X theme files you download from Envato or Themeco), the changes would be reset when the X theme updates.

Child themes allows you to keep your changes safe and separated from the original X theme installed (parent theme). This way you don’t need to change anything after an update. It’s a good idea to test your site after an update though, just to make sure things are still as they should be.
