Child Theme - Adding to an existing website

Hello,
We have a site built using X as a parent, I know how to add the child theme itself but how do we safely activate so it brings across the settings and any custom CSS from the parent?

A child theme is a WordPress theme that inherits its functionality from another WordPress theme, the parent theme. Child themes are often used when you want to customize or tweak an existing WordPress theme without losing the ability to upgrade that theme.

Simply go to Appearance -> Themes and activate the X child theme. It will inherit all functionalities of the X parent theme.
