Changing WP Site Address Breaks Cornerstone

I had initially installed Wordpress in a subdirectory (https://www.domain.com/installationfolder/). I just updated my Wordpress Site Address (https://www.domain.com) so it doesn’t look like it loads in the directory. But now, Cornerstone and the X Options will not load. I get an HTTP 5oo error page. How do I get around this?

Hello Lindsay,

Thanks for writing in! Did you also modify the index.php in your root folder? By the way, the Site URL should be https://www.domain.com while the WordPress Address (URL) is the one that will be using the https://www.domain.com/installationfolder/ . You can check these settings in Settings > General from your WordPress dashboard.

Kindly check this out:

If ever you have placed the URLS incorrectly and you can no longer log in to the site, you will need to gain access to your hosting panel and then to the database where you can edit those URLs.

Best Regards.

I did also modify the index.php, as well as the .htaccess in the root folder. In the Wordpress settings page the “Wordpress Address (URL)” is the installation folder, written in the format [domain]/installationfolder. The “Site Address (URL)” is in the format [domain] - this is correct per both the link you sent and https://wordpress.org/support/article/giving-wordpress-its-own-directory/ (and has worked on every other site I’ve created using other themes). EVERYTHING except Cornerstone loads correctly. Cornerstone editing returns a 500 http error page. Please advise.

Hey Lindsay,

In that case, please restore the htaccess file using the instruction here: https://www.tipsandtricks-hq.com/how-to-reset-the-htaccess-file-of-your-wordpress-site-using-ftp-8527

Also, try restoring the original, index.php of WordPress. See https://github.com/WordPress/WordPress/blob/master/index.php

If restoring the htaccess and the index.php doesn’t help, please provide the following information in a Secure Note.

  • WordPress Login URL
  • Admin Username and Password
  • FTP Credentials

You can find the Secure Note button at the bottom of your posts.

Thanks.

Hello Lindsay,

Thanks for providing the log details. I have inspected your site and I found out that what broke Cornerstone is not the Site URL settings. It turns out that you have renamed the X folder to something else. I went ahead and uploaded a fresh copy of the X theme. It is now being activated and your issue is already resolved.

Kindly check your site now.

Hi, sorry no it is not resolved. It is only resolved when the Site Address and Wordpress Address match. I updated the Site Address as desired and once again you’ll see it is not resolved. If you use the credentials and go to the pages and click to edit in Cornerstone, Cornerstone does not load. (Installing a fresh copy of X theme was one of the solutions I had tried, which did not fix my issue.)

Hi Lindsay,

I tried to log in to your FTP account using the FTP access you provided to check your .htaccess but I can’t access to your FTP account, please update it so that we can troubleshoot more on this issue.

Thank you.

I think that might have got it working

Hi Lindsay,

Just give us new FTP access so that we can troubleshoot further about the said issue.

Thank you.
