Change layout of Blog list page when it is Home Page

Hi

I am unable to get to change the overall layout of how blogs appear on Home page.

I tried all 4 theme options but they seem too constrained, I can’t seem to to have much flexibility about how each blog post excerpt appears.

Also Cornerstone does not offer me to Edit Home page because thats where my blogs appear (I want it that way - but how to edit that layout?)

Thanks!

Hi Nirav,

Thanks for reaching out.

It’s not possible to edit any reserve pages in cornerstone (like blog page, category page, and any listing page).

You can only change your blog page layout through custom development of the templates. If it’s just about styling then we could help with few snippets, but with layout editing then I recommend contact a developer for blog customization.

The blog index page is based on Wordpress standard and only stylized and given structure to match it with the theme. The listing is generated by Wordpress.

Thanks!

Thanks @Rad

Would you care to elaborate on “custom development of templates” part in your answer?
Is it something I can do as part of Cornerstone, or do I have to edit wordpress CSS?

This was quite an important factor for me while getting a premium theme, because so many free themes on the market seem to provide what X offers in Cornerstone now (4 themes with prebuilt layouts are good, but no blog page layout change).

Or am I missing something obvious?

Hello Nirav,

The blog index or any archive page cannot be edited with any page builder or even the default WordPress editor. You can best test this with WordPress Twenty Nineteen theme.

The blog index or any archive page layouts were uniquely designed in each theme. The post items were dynamically generated by WordPress itself. If you want to change the layout, it will require you template customization because you will have to restructure how the post items were displayed.

In X theme, you can have the standard layout and the masonry layout pre built in each of the stacks.

You can check out the blog options in X > Theme Options > {your stack} > Blog Options and in X > Theme Options >Blog.

Hope this helps.

Hi @RueNel - thank you so much for the assistance.

I could find the path X > Theme Options >Blog and played with the options.

Under this path X > Theme Options > {your stack} > Blog Options
I could only see entry icon position and alignment parameters.
Changing them had no effect whatsoever.

Twenty Nineteen is probably a free wordpress theme. Those stock layouts were what I wanted to avoid when I started considering premium themes.

Cornerstone presented me with infinite layout possibilities - but looks like not anymore.

Can visual composer be any help?

Hello Nirav,

In the blog option, you will only have standard and masonry layout. You also have the option to select how many columns to display for masonry layout. You have to option to display fullwidth or use global content settings and have a sidebar.

If you want to create a different layout for your homepage, you can simply create a page and edit it in Cornerstone. You can layout out anything you want. If you want to display post items on the page, you can use the recent post element as well. Once you are done saving the page, you can go to Settings > Reading > Front Page displays and assign this new page as your Home page.

Hope this helps.
