Hey. I want to add a category filter for the main posts page using an archive layout. How would this be possible? Any plugins that work? Thanks

Suggesting the 3rd Party plugin is beyond the scope of theme support. I would only suggest you go through the following article that describes a few of the available plugins for similar purposes.
