Carousel and slider photo display

Hello,
I’m just getting started with theme X for my site. I have chosen Ethos and inserted carousel on the top of home page, with slider underneath Menu.

I have selected the featured articles for carousel and selected background image for it.
No photos appear in the carousel or slider. What shall I do ?
