Can't update on buddypress activity page

I’m having an issue. The “Post” button does not show up in Buddypress when X-Theme is enabled.

When I activate the ‘Youzer’ BP plugin, the post button appears, yet I get an infinite hang.

I asked X-Theme support and Youzer support and WPMUDEV and I get this -->

YOUZER - (Plug-in developers)

Hi Peter,

We are able to post activities on user wall page… I just tried posting onesmile.png - https://intothemythica.com/members/supporthero/wall/

The issue is that the activity page is still not accessible and throws ‘Record not found’ error. As you can see, it happens only when X-theme is activated not when youzer is enabled… Hope it makes sense…

Kindly ask your theme support to get activity page up and running. so that we can look into issues in activity page if any…

This is confusing. X-Theme (and WPMUDEV) are reporting this -->

Uncaught ReferenceError: bp_get_cookies is not defined
at HTMLButtonElement. (yz-wall-form.min.js?ver=2.2.1:1)
at HTMLButtonElement.dispatch (jquery.js?ver=1.12.4:3)
at HTMLButtonElement.r.handle (jquery.js?ver=1.12.4:3)

So which is it? Youzer says it’s X-Theme. X-Theme says it’s Youzer (or at least that’s what the other thread said to me). Why doesn’t the BP post button even appear when it’s simply X-Theme w/no Youzer?

Confused. Please help.

Hi Peter,

There could be a conflict with Youzer plugin and X-theme.

Would you mind providing us with login credentials so we can take a closer look? Please provide following information:

All the best!

sent them. thank you so very very much. It’s very challenging being in the limbo of multiple points of view on something I don’t quite understand.

I bought this plug in a while back and learned right away i had problems. For me it was all my pages leading to “page not found or was never here to begin with” - This same issue has happened to me before - in fact, it happens every time i update cornerstone or x-theme if i dont deactivate certain plugins beforehand.
So I came here to ask and also went to Youzer to ask, and I was told that Youzer plugin generates an extra DIV tag, which causes the issue, and that Youzer has a different template that breaks the theme.
I would love to use this plugin -
Needless to say I am interested…

Haven’t had those kinds of issues. Youzer’s been pretty good to me. A bit of technical support here and there yet besides this issue on the main activity feed it’s been mostly good. A great skin for BP

Hi Peter,

Though I can’t provide any solution since this is a 3rd party plugin, I could gather information to see what part of the theme is in conflict. Would you mind providing your FTP login credentials as well?

The integration between BuddyPress is in /x/buddypress/ folder and /x/framework/functions/plugins/buddypress.php. If the codes and templates are removed and still the same then it’s probably not due to the theme.

Thanks!

Done. Thank you. This is SUPER-important.

Also, this bit, from the above comments, says that it’s not Youzer, it’s something else

The issue is that the activity page is still not accessible and throws ‘Record not found’ error. As you can see, it happens only when X-theme is activated not when youzer is enabled… Hope it makes sense…

Hi Peter,

I did some test and I’m able to post with image without freezing or hanging. The post is successful even with Pro theme.

And may I know what should I see on activity stream other than “record not found”? Activating another theme results to “This content is for members only.” which is weird since I’m logged in. If it requires special account then please provide the login as well.

Thanks!

That’s the weirdness. I’ve turned off all the membership plugins and it’s still not working.

I assume that you changed the theme to 2019 or something because my widget assignments got cleared again.

I’m confused though. You were able to post an image on the ACTIVITY FEED page? Not the PROFILE page? Like, on this page --> https://intothemythica.com/mythos/

This is where I’m confused. How can we check the 'This content is for members only" bit? Since I’ve disabled the plugins that are membership oriented … something’s up.

So, you are saying you can post when in Pro theme? On the Activity page?

like, I’m genuinely a bit confused. I know there’s a way for the Activity Feed update to work because it did for awhile. Yet something changed, and I’m not sure what. When X Pro is engaged, the Post button doesn’t even show up on my end on the Activity Feed. It does on Youzer, yet does nothing. I’m told about this ‘This content is for members only’ yet I still get an infinite hang whilst posting with Youzer engaged and no button with ‘X’ engaged, which is not normal.

So … there’s *something * going on with the normal X theme on the activity feed. Weird.

Update - There was … there was some kind of an !important fix to allow the post button to come up in X-Theme. I’m not sure what the ‘This is restricted to members only is coming from. There’ got to be a way to check it

Hi Peter,

Switching theme will reset the widget assignments, but it should return back if you switch it back to the theme where widgets are assigned. But could happen for plugins too that’s I think is permanently gone, especially if the plugins register their own sidebars.

Yes, I can post on activity page with the credentials you have provided like on this page https://intothemythica.com/mythos/. The post button is there while Pro and Youzer are active. Please check the video in the secure note.

The This is restricted to members only is not coming from X theme, it’s present even on other themes. So I can’t really answer that question, I recommend contacting the plugin author and have the X/Pro theme inactive while they do that.

Thanks!

Okay. That video link leads to a blank page for me.

Also, I tried posting on the Activity page with Youzer activate and I get the infinite hang again. So, nothings changed for me. Just to check, I signed in as supporthero and tried again, same issue. Infinite hang.

VERY confused. I’m not sure what you’re looking at.

When I turn off Youzer then I get no Post button on the main activity page. First things first, I’d like that post button to appear on the main activity page while in X Pro without Youzer turned on. I am currently investigating the ‘this content is for members only’ which seems to come up regardless of whether or not the plugins are activated, which makes no sense and is why I’ve been wondering about how to track where that bit of code comes from.

So, can we just fix it FIRST so that the post button appears on X-Pro without Youzer enabled? And see if we can post from there? And THEN move onto something else?

as said, the video link goes nowhere for me.

Hi Peter,

The video link works on my end, if may pop-up a login but you can always close it. If the video isn’t playing then you can download it and play it. But if it’s totally blank where you can’t even download a video then it seems you have issues accessing site which maybe contributing to your current issue.

Unfortunately, what I can only do is gather information to see where the conflict since it’s a 3rd party plugin. And we can’t provide any fix as of now. And since i can’r reproduce it then I’m not sure how I should proceed with investigation.

Perhaps it’s coming from MemberPress plugin or any plugin that alters role and capabilities? I couldn’t do a further investigation as it’s not related to the theme and I may harm your site as I’m not fully familiar with them. I would recommend consulting it to a developer to fully check your setup, but we’ll gladly help to gather information if it’s Pro theme related.

Thanks for understanding.

In the video, it shows you posting on the profile page. Not on the main activity page.

The issue is on the main activity page.

note - I did see your note saying that you posted on the main activity page, yet the video showed the profile page.

Hi Peter,

I see what you mean now, I thought you’re referring to https://intothemythica.com/mythos/ as profile page and yes, it’s due to cookie error on that page. Again, sorry for the confusion and I like to do some further testing and disable the Pro theme, would you mind backing it up especially the widgets then I’ll proceed.

Thanks!

YES!!! You saw it!!! Yay!!!

Ahhh … ahh … so much better. Misunderstanding was huge.

(the automatic backup from wpengine last night is fine. I don’t know what’s causing the widget reassignments. it’s okay. let’s just do this)

Got it.

I had to change the slug for the activity page in the bp-custom.php to the current page. Now it’s working. YES

thanks for the efforts, it all helps

Glad it’s working now and thanks for sharing. Is that a theme file? I can’t find it anywhere on the theme. Perhaps it’s due to hook, and I’m still not sure if it’s related to a cookie.
