Can't save some pages (error) or Theme Options - but some save fine - inconsistent "Uh Oh" errors in Pro - may be related to links on Page or in Theme Options

I’m having a strange experience and wp-engine support hasn’t been able to figure it out either.

The pages on my site that I’ve been working on consistently for the past few weeks seem to work and save fine in the X-theme pro builder.

However, some older pages (many of them) edit but when i go to save I get an error “Uh oh! Failed to Save” in a white box in the upper right.

I also get the same error when trying to save x-theme pro setting changes.

A few perplexing details:

• I reverted back to 12/28/20 before the latest x-theme pro update and before most recent wordpress update. everything works fine. except I lose a lot of new/edited content. Similar plugins.
• I copied the current site to a dev environment in its current state. It works (!) and saves normally. Same version of wordpress and x-theme pro (although x-theme license isn’t validated on the dev server)
• I reverted back to 1/10/21 when any potential recent plugin changes etc would have been made - no dice, won’t save.
• I reverted to previous version of wordpress. No dice, won’t save.

Again, it’s only certain older pages that won’t save. I went ahead and replaced all classic elements with v2 elements in one of them. Still won’t save.

Would appreciate some help - to avoid having to revert site to weeks ago and lose a lot of work.

More and more perplexing. I created a new page. Put some content on it. It saved fine.
Added some more rows and a couple global blocks. Minor formatting.
now it gets “Uh oh, can’t save” error.
Deleted all the new items, still “can’t save.”

Refreshed browser to revert to last saved point. Added back all the same elements. Now saves fine.

Here’s an example.

1. Page with content block with simple text–> saves fine

2. Add a line of html containing an <a href=> link. --> “uh oh, can’t save”

Remove that line containing the link --> saves fine

–> Turns out hyperlinks to certain pages on our web site e.g. https://mydoctorsf.com/paul-abramson-md/ break it, but other pages do not (!) e.g. https://mydoctorsf.com/faq/
–> This does not explain all the behavior, however.

… and still can’t save any changes to the x-theme pro “Theme options” page … same “Uh oh! failed to save” error.

UPDATE:
It seems that URL links are part of the problem.
Under Theme Options if I delete all the links under “social” (to facebook, instagram etc), then the Theme Options now save (!!).
Why are links breaking the ability to save pages / settings?
I have updated Pro to the latest version, Wordpress to latest version.

Hi Paul,

It mostly happens due to the broken HTML, I would suggest you check by deleting the section one by one till the issue is fixed, and the last one you have deleted before the fix is the actual issue. I would also suggest you check by deleting the Global Blocks, which might be the cause of your issue.
If that does not help, please provide login credentials for your site in a secure note to examine it further, including:

– WordPress Site URL & Login URL
– WordPress Admin username/password
