I can make and safe changes in the staging site - when i deploy it to the life site it works - but I still cant make changes on the life site - and they are the same - so I really dont understand why the life site is not working 
We’re not really sure either. It’s one of stranger issues we’ve seen. I would probably start by reinstalling WordPress. Try disabling plugins again. Possibly try a backup that was working, while hopefully not losing data. Let us know if any of that helps.
