Can't remove one font from Essential Grid

Hello. Early in my use of Essential Grid I tried adding the Mukta (Google font) to Punch Fonts, but copied the entire link reference from Google Fonts instead of just Mukta:500. When I tested the website speed, waterfalls show that there is an error in getting this font. When I looked up the documentation about adding fonts from Essential Grid, I realized my mistake. So I’ve added Mukta:500 following their instructions. However, in Punch Fonts I can’t remove the old version (there is no arrow to the right of it to allow me to see the handle, parameter, or remove it — it just says “Font Family:” and then blank space. Is there a way to remove it?

Hello There,

Thanks for writing in! I have logged in and I only see one font:

The font Family at the top could be a duplicate. Please deactivate and re activate the essential plugin and see if it removes the above font container. And it does not work, please login to your ftp and delete the ess-grid folder. After deleting, go back to the dashboard and re install the plugin and see if it is already removed.

Please let us know how it goes.

You’re correct that it’s the top “Font Family” that is blank that I would like to remove. Two questions:

  1. Before I deactivate or delete the ess-grid folder, will either of those actions delete the grid that I have already set up? I spent a lot of hours customizing it and then importing it to the pertinent pages on our site.

  2. If I need to delete the ess-grid folder, where is it located? I can see a folder named “essential-grid” under plugins, but I suspect that will delete all of the work I have done.

Hi there,

You can use the method below to export your work and save:

https://www.themepunch.com/essgrid-doc/import-export/

Then you can follow the steps my colleague mentioned, and the folder is correct, don’t worry as soon as you have the exported version you will not have a problem deleting the folder and adding it back again using the X > Overview menu.

Thank you.

Thanks for the link to export/import instructions. The problem still persists. Here is what I have done:

  1. I deactivated and reactivated Essential Grid—but the two fonts were still in Punch Fonts.
  2. I exported everything EXCEPT Punch fonts, deactivated and deleted Essential Grid, logged out, cleared the browser cache, logged back in, installed and activated Essential Grid — but both fonts were in Punch Fonts even before I imported what I had exported.
  3. I deactivated and deleted Essential Grid, and cleared the browser cache.
  4. I tested the speed of the website, and the error message re: Google font did not show up.
  5. I installed and activated Essential Grid. Both fonts are in Punch Fonts. I hadn’t done the import yet.
  6. I tested the speed of the website, and the error message re: Google font is present. You can see the error message plus details at https://gtmetrix.com/ and enter dev1.thumbprintbooks.ca and click on the Waterfall tab (I can’t figure out how to include screen shots in this post, so that’s the speed test website where I found the most information about the problem).

Hey @Adams,

Looks like uninstalling Essential Grid won’t work. It leaves data behind so your Punch Fonts data are still there and one is corrupted and you can’t remove it in the interface. Please take a look at the screenshots below.

Corrupted HTML structure of the first font where you’ve incorrectly inserted the link reference.

Compare it to the working HTML structure of your second font.

The corrupted data can only be removed in the database. Please give us cPanel access in a Secure Note so we could access your database and remove the data. Please note that there is risk working directly with the database so please backup your site so you can revert to it if something went wrong.

Thanks.

Okay. I have downloaded a backup of the public_html directory, plus exported each of the MySQL databases and downloaded them.

Hi there,

Looks like the database has issue as well, it kicks me out to login page over and over, then there are errors appear in PhpMyAdmin related to CPANEL. With this, I think it’s best to contact your hosting provider first and have it fixed. I can’t even open the database or list tables.

Thanks!

Hello. I contacted Bluehost technical support (our hosting provider).

Hello There,

I was able to logged in and finally removed the Google Font. I actually removed all the fonts from the database. I added again Mukta and now you should only be seeing Mukta in the list.

If you need anything else we can help you with, don’t hesitate to open another thread.

Thank you once again for your TERRIFIC support!

Hey There,

You’re welcome! We are just glad we were able to help you out.

Cheers.
