Can't link to an outside website via basic html

Hello, I’m using X and Cornerstone to add a content area. I’m editing the html in the inspector html editor. No problems, except when I try to link to an outside site. For example, I am typing a basic html link to go to ExternalSite.com

but when I hover over the link, it tries to send me to: http://mySite.com/ExternalSite.com

I’m sure I’m overlooking some option that is causing links to stay internal. Any help would be great.

While adding the URL, please make sure to add full URL ex: https://theme.co/
