Can't edit Sidebar to be same as other site with same settings

Hi, I’m trying to get a newer site to have posts look like this:

You’ll note that the sidebar goes to the top and the top image goes above the title and the date info.

On this site, also owned by me and trying to be exactly the same looks different. Here is the link to a post:

On this you’ll see the top image goes all the way across and is blue. I want it to look the same as the njk site. I’ve been wracking my brain between the pages for settings and can’t for the life of me figure out how to change this.

Please help. Thanks!

Hi @noahjkatz,

What you have here: https://thebigpicturephotobooth.com/2020/04/why-a-photobooth/ seems to be a customization. That’s not available on the settings. Please try to switch from child theme to main X theme. Check how it looks after that.

Hi Lely,

Thanks for helping me out. I’m using the child theme for both the sites because I learned that it’s best to do that just in case an update wipes out any customization’s I’ve made.

Having said that I just looked at both sites and found that under Appearnce->Child Theme Customize->Additional CSS I had code there on thebigpicturephotobooth.com website but for njkphotography.com there was no code. So I’ve removed the code but now on a post page there is a picture across top with writing in black. Not sure how to remove that.

Here is a post on bigpicture showing that it’s messed up: https://thebigpicturephotobooth.com/2020/04/why-a-photobooth/

Here is a post on njkphotography showing how it should look:

Any more idea on how to make it look like njk? I feel your suggestion got me closer but now there is a something to remove to get it dialed in.

Thanks!
Noah

Hi Noah,

This design (https://njkphotography.com/2019/09/sushi-in-the-studio/) is the default of the theme, and what you have here before (https://thebigpicturephotobooth.com/2020/04/why-a-photobooth/) full-width featured image is not.

That means you or someone on your team made a customization on the child theme of the (thebigpicturephotobooth) site, what you need to do now is recall that customization and remove it from your child theme, that will make the layout of the post back to the default (like on the njk)

From the looks of it, it seems the customization was done on the functions.php file, but it can also be on a template file, anyways there should only be few files on your child theme so it should not be hard to find that customization, especially if you recall adding it.

And do the edits via FTP or cPanel File Manager, yes you can edit it from Appearance > Theme Editor but you’re risking it to be locked up from the site.

Let us know how it goes,
Cheers!
