Cannot update theme and cornerstone without breaking site

I have posted about this previously, prior to the Apex launch. We have a website that was originally part of a multisite that we have extracted into its own install.

I have updated the theme and cornerstone on the staging server, and everything looks fine, But after we copy the changes back to production and clear the cloudflare and keycdn caches, the site breaks, showing ALL content (we have content that has been created for four different browser sizes) as well as the stylesheet has gone haywire.

I have repeated this process a dozen times over the past month, and each time, we get the same result.

At this point, I am willing to simply pay Themeco to do the updates for us, but that service appears to have disappeared. It is now mission critical that we get this site updated so that we can prepare a hand off for our client.

Please advise

Hello There,

Thanks for writing in! Are you using CloudFlare or may have installed a caching plugin like WordFence, W3 Total Cache or WP Super Cache? Please keep in mind that after doing every updates, always remember to clear all caches when updating so that the code from the latest release is always in use. This will help you to avoid any potential errors.

Hope this helps. Please let us know how it goes.

In case it wasn’t clear from my earlier response, as indicated, the issue arises AFTER we clear the various caches. So clearing the caches doesn’t solve the problem, but actually identifies it.

Does Themeco still offer an updates service? I just need to get this handled ASAP.

Hi,

Please create a staging/test site that is a duplicate of your site.

So we can test without having to break your lice site.

You can use this third party plugin in creating one.

Thanks

I have attached the credentials for the staging site in a secure note.

Please note: this is a completely fresh staging instance, with no caching of content from previous instances.

Hi There,

I could update without any issues,

Please take a look on your website and let us know if something does not look right.

Thank you

HI there,
please see my original post. I can guarantee that if we copy the site from staging and back to production, then clear the caches as indicated, the site will break.

Hi again,

You can follow these steps to update on live site:

  1. Flush all cache (Plugin and Cloudflare’s cahce)
  2. Disable Cloudflare’s auto minifier.
  3. Deactivate all plugins.
  4. Switch to parent theme
  5. Now update X and Cornerstone to the latest version.

Make sure to take a backup first and after update clear you browser’s cache as well.

Let us know how this goes!

Thanks Nabeel - I’ll let you know how this goes.

I too am stuck in the middle of a mess EXACTLY like this thread. My staging site works perfectly, but once I push to live I’m having all the same problems. I’ve done everything listed above regarding clearing the cache too. Will keep an eye on this thread and update if I find a solution.

Hi Nabeel,

I’ve set up a different thread regarding this exact same topic with no replies yet. I just followed all of these steps and I have the same problem…my stylesheet is broken and the format of my site is a mess. Please advise. Thank you.

Hi,

In that case please provide us your wordpress admin login and ftp login in Secure Note in the NEW topic/thread that you have created.

Thanks
