Cannot edit footers with Pro

I have updated a clients website, https://evolutioninsideout.com, to the latest version of Pro. It is also running the latest WordPress version, 4.9.6. I cannot edit my footers now. I get the “The preview was unresponsive after loading. This is most often related to a plugin conflict or aggressive page cacheing.” message. I’ll detail what I’ve done to try and resolve this.

  1. Cleared browser cache
  2. Cleared Siteground cache
  3. Paused Cloudflare and purged it’s cache
  4. Disabled all plugins
  5. Swapped to parent theme
  6. Viewed in other browsers I never normally use
  7. Increased memory allocated

None of this worked for me. I am at my wit’s end with this. It’s happened on other websites where I’ve used the Pro theme too. When I switch on the browser debugger I see a number of error messages including;

  1. Source map error: request failed with status 404
    Resource URL: https://www.evolutioninsideout.com/wp-content/themes/pro/cornerstone/assets/dist-app/js/cs-vendor.js?ver=3.0.4
    Source Map URL: cs-vendor.map
    2)Empty string passed to getElementById().
    jquery.js:2:24932
    3)Transition Error
    Object { error: true, message: “Xfr request made by preview timed out”, ts: “ts15274601841900”, params: {…} }
    Object { state: {…}, intent: {…}, router: {…}, data: {}, resolvedModels: {…}, queryParams: {}, promise: {…}, error: undefined, params: {…}, handlerInfos: (3) […], … }

Please can you help? This is ruining my experience of what I believe could be an outstanding theme.

Kindest regards,

Phil.

HI @pmason,

Thanks for writing in.

I could see that you have already tried fixing the issue using the common fixes. In this case, please share us your admin credentials so we could check further.

Usually, the given error that you shared does not have anything to do with the problem.

Don’t forget to set it in a secure note.

Thanks

I’ve added a secure note to my first comment with some login credentials. Thank you.

Hi,

The login provided doesn’t seem to work.

Kindly check again and let us know.

Thanks

I’ve reset the password which I will add in a secure note, thanks.

HI There,

Thanks again for the details!
I can see there is no issue with the footer editor.

The footer is loading fine without the error message. Only I have seen there is the issue with the content in the default footer.

The content is not loading properly which may be due to the below reason.
Custom code syntax error. If you have a child theme, please enable the child theme and check if the issue still exists. If you have entered any custom JS or CSS into their respective editors. Please review the code for any syntax errors. A mis-placed semi-colon or a missing bracket will cause the issue you’re seeing.

Hope this helps!

That’s not what I see. I still get the conflict message and the browser console errors. I have tried clearing cache’s again and still no difference.

Hi There,

The footer editor is working fine on my end. I have created a new test footer and it working just fine.
Don’t get any error that you have posted.

Can you please try editing in a different network of a PC?
Let us know if that helps!

Thanks

I’ve tried using a different machine on a different network at a friends house, turned on development mode in Cloudflare, cleared all the caches and I still can’t edit my footer. I can edit both of the new footers that you have created, but not my own. Can you help please? I’ve no idea how to fix the errors. There are the errors I see in my developer console.

Hello There,

Thanks for updating in! Do you have a staging area where we can do further testing? This issue could only be present in your server as we do not have encounter any of this is our different testing servers. By the way, we just have release the Pro 2.1.1 in manual updates! This release contains fixes for several issues so be sure to check out the changelog (https://theme.co/changelog/). Please do update to the latest version. After doing the updates, always remember to clear all caches when updating so that the code from the latest release is always in use. This will help you to avoid any potential errors.

Please let us know how it goes.

I updated to the latest version, cleared all the cache’s and there wasn’t any difference. I can’t afford to keep waiting, there was an important update I needed to make to the content, so in the end I had to delete elements of the footer until it worked and then rebuild it. I think it was a small piece of javascript in the footer that was causing the problem.

Hello There,

Now that you have updated the Pro theme, I was able to edit one of your footers. I did not encounter any issues or JS errors whatsoever.

Please check out my screenshot:

Please clear your browser cache or use incognito mode and test your site again.
