Cannot access own hosted website from outside home network

Hosting a site on my Raspberry Pi works fine and a simple index.html page is reachable on my public IP address from outside the home network.

Unfortunately it goes wrong when I test the site with Theme X. It is accessible within my home network but not from outside for the rest of the world.

Do you know how to solve this?

(URL and IP-address in the secure note)

Hey There,

From a technical standpoint if the html page is accessible external then also WordPress would be as they both use apache or nginx for serving the page and the only thing preventing the access would be a firewall which can not differentiate between a WordPress install or pure html. One thing you can check are the file permissions of all WordPress files so they are readable from the outside. Another thing that would help us is if you let us know the error message you’re receiving. Looking forward to hearing from you.

Hi Rubin. Thanks for helping! Testing WAN via browserling.com shows “This page can’t be displayed” and “Make sure the web address is correct”. I am afraid these notifications will not help much. I have now replaced the index.html with index.php file so that you can see for yourself what happens in the browser with Wordpress / Theme-X, both the latest versions.

In the attachment a screen dump of the rights on the server in the folder /html. It is a standard installation of Wordpress so that should be okay. Or do you see something that is not right?

Please check http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx/readme.html and see this works fine.

I hope to hear from you again.

After waiting this time almost 24 hours, you no longer need to respond. I have to help my client on time with his website and with the speed of your support that did not work, so we will look for another solution.

As you can see in my account, we bought several licenses of Theme-X and the support was always very fast and adequate. Unfortunately, I notice that it is now much too slow. A theme must be technically well-built, but support is also very important. I’m sorry this no longer seems to be okay with you, though I hope I’m mistaken.

In any case, we will no longer buy your theme for new websites.

Hello @TIS123,

Just for future topics, self responding or bumping your post pushes it back in our Queue system so it takes longer to respond to. We provide support to our customers 24/7/365 in the Support Forum. Support questions are answered in the order received and responses may take up to 24 hours (typically sooner). Complex questions or busy times may take longer.

Please also understand that your issue seems to have come from your server. We highly recommend that you set up a staging site using 3rd party sites like WPEngine, Pantheon.io, FlyWheel, etc. Having to set up a staging from a different host will allow you to compare your own server and the staging site that is hosted by other servers.

Best Regards.
