Can you use a YouTube or Vimeo video in the background of headers?

Hi there,

we were hoping to have this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hdPVN_bsJdk

as the background on https://bscottfinearts.ca/ instead of using the static .jpg image.

We tried setting the “Background Lower Layer” and “Background Upper Layer” to video, both one a time either or off and on, but the youtube video is not showing.

Please let us know what we should be doing.

Hello There,

Thanks for writing in! Youtube or Vimeo links are not allowed in the video background. You will need to download your Youtube video, convert the video into *.mp4, *.ogv or *.webm because these are the only cross browser compatible video file size. Upload the converted video in your media folder and provide the video url in the video source.

Hope this helps.

Ah okay, great thank you! : )

Glad we could help.

Cheers!

HI is this still the case for hero banner videos?

will it never be possible to use a VIMEO or YOUTUBE URL?

curious what the reason behind this not being something that is doable.

cheers. and many thanks.

Hey Erich,

I just tested this in the latest version of Pro and Youtube and Vimeo videos are accepted as background video now.

Unlike using a self-hosted video though, it won’t cover the bar or section automatically. You will need to adjust the height of the bar or section according to the video’s aspect ratio.

Video information will also briefly be displayed.

If you can, I’d recommend using a Vimeo Pro as they allow direct linking to the video so it’s like self-hosting.

Hope that helps.
