Also have problems with other sites with X, when I have not updated in a long time you can not enter serial number to activate x again. I activate on and off serial numbers to x depending on where I am in the production of sites.

Thanks for reaching out.
I would suggest you activate the parent theme or any other default theme like TwentyTwenty and try to update the X theme by following the below steps.

  1. Delete the existing Cornerstone plugin
  2. Update the X theme to the latest version on automatic updates
  3. After the X theme is updated, use the link in the dashboard to automatically install the Cornerstone. It will be at the latest version
