"But what if you die"? Site verification and handover in a worst-case scenario

Hi,
not a technical question per se, but I had a client of mine ask me an interesting question the other day.

I host her site and offer pain-free full-service hosting i.e. I hold all the keys (passwords and access) to her site, domain name, emails etc. I’m also a one-man band and have no staff.

My client asked me “what would happen to her site and data if I died or was incapacitated in some way.” This was an interesting question, which I didn’t have a ready answer for.

So, my question is twofold.

First, to Themeco staff, how does a customer (my client) of Themeco’s customer (your client) prove ownership and establish access to my Themeco account and my Pro Theme lifetime subscription, if I am incapacitated in some way? Will all the sites that I’ve built with Pro continue to be supported with Pro updates?

Secondly, to the Themeco Forum, what systems (if any) do you have in place for access and transferral of your client’s site and data?

Thanks in advance for your time and reply.

Hey Paul,

To your question:

Since your client is not our customer, s/he does not or could not have access to support. We provide support to you only. If your client wants to receive support from us, s/he will need to purchase his or her own license.

To the question “what if you die or be incapacitated?”, I’d recommend you have a backup trusted person to handle your account.

All the sites under a Pro Unlimited License will continue to receive updates and be supported. However, as mentioned above, you or anyone you hand over access to your account will receive support.

We don’t have a system to transfer customer’s data. You will need to manually hand over access of your account to someone you choose.

If you’re referring to transferring your Pro Unlimited License, it’s not possible. You can only transfer Single Licenses by unlocking the license so it can be registered again to another account.

Hope that helps.

Thank you @christian, for your comprehensive answer. Very clear direction on the enquiry above.
