Broken Site / Cornerstone not loading

Hello,

I had created a website for my stepfather’s company a couple fo years ago, and was just made aware of the fact that the site broke (specifically the menu, and other elements on the site don’t that display as intended. Some have been completely jumbled around somehow, e.g. the homepage slider and the about text switched places).

Admittedly, I had not been updating anything over the last year or so, but that was the first thing I did after being made aware of the issue (i.e. both Cornerstone and X Theme are up-to-date, same with all other plug-ins). I am not sure if this is related to the display issues on the front-end, but in the backend, when I open the cornerstone editor, this error message shows up:

Warning : count(): Parameter must be an array or an object that implements Countable in /home/findhor3/public_html/wp-content/plugins/cornerstone/includes/classes/app/class-app-boot.php on line 35

This is the site: https://findhornconsultancy.com/

I’d be happy to give someone from your team access to backend, if that would help solve the issue.

Thank you for your support,
Noah

Hello Noah,

I can see the site is really not loading correctly. First, can you check on Settings > General > WordPress Address (URL) and Site Address (URL). Make sure both of those settings have is the same using your site URL.
The issue is because the file are returning 404 page not found. Your site is https://findhornconsultancy.com/ but the files it is looking for is here https://findhornconsultancy.com/test/wp-content/

Why is there test in it? Did you set it?

Also, I can see both X theme and Cornerstone is not updated. The site is using X 5.2.5 and Cornerstone 2.1.7.

Please try to update it again. Here’s your guide.

Let us know how this goes.

Hi Lely,

Thank you for your support. (tldr - you helped fix it - I have just one quick question at the end.)

If I remember correctly, the test was in there because I had used that for staging the site (evidently not the right way to do it). It did not cause any issue when I had launched the site, a few years back, but now it is/was.

I believe this also explains why I thought I had updated Cornerstone and the X theme - it must have been applied to the test site only. While I still don’t fully understand what happened, changing the Site Address url as per your suggestion, and updating cornerstone + X again (well, first time for that domain it seems), it solved pretty much all of the issues.

The only thing that I am now struggling with, is removing the white bars below and above the image slider on the homepage. How would I go about removing those? I have turned off the global container, but that only seems to eliminate the edges on the sides, not top/bottom.

Many Thanks,
Noah

Hello Noah,

Glad most of the issues are now sorted out. I cannot explain how it works before because it is not supposed to be. Although I am not familiar with your previous setup.

Anyways, the white bars is cause by section default padding. White is set on the main container background for ethos. Just inspect the section set top and bottom pading to zero instead.

See this: https://screencast-o-matic.com/watch/cYhr18kdjX

Hope this helps.

Hi Lely,

Thank you for your help - I am not sure where the padding can be changed for the section (it only seems show margins, which were all set to zero). But by right-clicking in the empty white space, it gave me a simple one-click option to delete the white bar.

Thanks again - that’s all my questions answered and problems solved!

We are delighted to assist you with this.

Cheers!
