Broken Links in Text and buttons

When I paste a full URL link for my site into a button or even text, it is replacing it with a relative link which is fine except it is breaking the links. It will do it relative to the page its on rather than the root.

I put the text links in the list as seen here.

I have done it now 3 times and I think it finally saved them correctly. I am pasting the ENTIRE URL into the link editor. The editor is changing the URL to break the link. :frowning:

Hi @stuartborders,

Thank you for reaching out to us. I tried to replicate the issue you’re having on my local setup but i’m not facing any problem I edited the links in HTML editor as well as in Rich Text editor and the links were not breaking on my end. You can switch to HTML editor and then paste your links (see screenshot)

You could be having this issue due to a third party plugin conflict with the editor, try testing for a plugin conflict. You can do this by deactivating all third party plugins, and seeing if the problem remains. If it’s fixed, you’ll know a plugin caused the problem, and you can narrow down which one by reactivating them one at a time.

Alternatively you can try Classic Raw Content element instead and paste your HTML in there.

Let us know how it goes!

It is still doing it for me. I just replaced a link on a page. The link was pointed at an incorrect URL. So I selected it in the ā€œon-pageā€ editor in Pro. I selected the link, clicked the link icon in the editor menu bar. Deleted the old link and pasted the full URL for the domain https://www.riverstone.tech. In the editor it showed correctly when i hovered. When I saved and opened the page it replaced it with ā€œā€¦/ā€ and is causing the link to point to the page itself.

I will not edit this page till you look at it. I will add a secure note with login info so you can test on my site.

Stuart

Hello @stuartborders,

Thank you for the details.

I have checked the page and the links is displaying correctly.
Please check the screenshot below:

Please clear all your plugin caches. I also found out that you are using CloudFlare. Please log in to your CloudFlare account and purge your site cache first before testing your site again.

Please let us know how it goes.

Please READ my note from today. I am talking about another page that had the same issue. I have already FIXED the page in question originally. PLEASE LOOK AT https://www.riverstone.tech/third-party-support/storage-support/emc-support/

Hello @stuartborders,

Please edit the text element and insert the html code.

You must clear all the plugin caches first and the CloudFlare site cache too before testing your page again.

I don’t understand why you are not listening to my comments.

I am completely aware of how to edit HTML!

I am telling you that when the text editor is used it is messing up my links. I am using this on a site where I have employees editing text and pasting links using the editor tools. My site is getting broken every time.

Hello @stuartborders,

I understand and listen to your comments. I even edited your page.
Please check it yourself and you’ll see that the links changed. Now my suggestion to you is to also follow my suggestion to clear and cache especially your site cache since you are using CloudFlare.

Best Regards.

I didn’t need you to edit it… i wanted to find out why its happening every time I use the tool to change the link. I have employees that are content people not html people. I don’t want to have go behind them every time they put a link on a page to ensure it is right.

Did you actually try to replicate what I described or did you just fix the link?

Hi Stuart,

I tried to replicate it but it doesn’t seem to be happening on my end.

See Video - https://www.screencast.com/t/OaclTIoX

I am not exactly sure if that is how you are doing it. Can you provide us a video showing the issue.

Thanks

It did it first try.

And again… This is the Dropbox link

Hello Stuart,

Thanks for sharing the screencasts.

To see if it’s a problem with the builder, I tested the link editing feature from preview panel of Content Builder on my local setup. It’s working fine on my dev setup. It’s specific to current ticket it seems.

To troubleshoot the problem, can you please share the FTP login details in secure note for us to take a closer look?

Thanks.

Hey Stuart,

I’m new to this thread so would you mind posting the video again so I could see how you’re posting the URL?

I’ve reviewed your posts and based on one of them:

it looks like you’re using the Inline Editing feature because that is currently a known bug with that feature that I’ve personally replicated and which will be fixed in one of the succeeding releases. In case you don’t know yet, Inline Editing is activated when you double click on the text. You’ll see an interface like the screenshot below.

Are you inserting links like in this screenshot?

If that is the case, then it’s currently a bug. Please use the full HTML or Rich Text editor for now.

You can tell your editors to switch to Rich Text for easy link inserting.

If that is also the case, we’re very sorry for all the confusion.

For the Button element, I’m wondering how you insert a link to a button. You can activate Inline Editing to edit the text but it does not have a link option.

Would mind showing us how you work with buttons also?

Thanks.

You are correct it does work in the rich text editor in the element bar.

here is the video of it not working for me https://www.dropbox.com/s/8n882xz6z94fky0/Video-Tue-May-14-2019-11-22-07.webm?dl=0

FYI, I got an email error when i tried to reply via email to this post saying that the noreply address didn’t exist.

Hi Stuart,

Thank you for the video provided. I have checked it, but it’s for the link text issue using inline editing. We have already submitted it to our issue tracker and identified as a bug.

For your button element issue, if you can provide us another video or with some screenshots, we should be able to assist you further.

Also as I have checked with our admin, there’s no way to reply to your forum tickets via email. You need to login into Themeco forum interface to reply to your threads.

Thanks!

Ok thanks. I didn’t understand that it had been submitted/known. thats a relief!

I haven’t had any issues with button links that I know of. I use the Link fields in the Element Bar. Do you need me to show that?

Hello @stuartborders,

This issue only affects the text element and it has been reported. There is no need to show for the buttons.

Regards.
