Breadcrumb not displaying right on cloned portfolio post

Hi

I have a inherited a website with a portfolio that was built before the whole Cornerstone overhaul. The first 5 portfolio posts have been set up with a breadcrumb that goes Home / Portfolio (a page) / Portfolio Post.

When I clone one of the portfolio posts (using Cornerstone) everything else copies perfectly, except 2 things are missing:

  1. The featured image – this is not a problem since it will be updated anyway.
  2. The middle part of the Breadcrumb – not it only reads Home / (a white gap) / Portfolio Post

I have tried everything but I can’t seem to figure out why a post that is a clone of another post does not behave in exactly the same way as the post it was cloned from.

Please can you shed some light on this?

Hi @designbythink,

Thanks for reaching out.
I have checked the same in my local environment, and it worked perfectly fine. If a duplicate portfolio item is showing, it only happens when the Portfolio archive page is not set. But from the first link, it can be seen that the Portfolio page is already set.
It seems there might be some different reasons behind your problem, I would like to suggest troubleshooting the following common issue to help us recognize the reason.

1.Theme Related Issue
2.Plugin Conflict
3.Theme Update related issue
4.Child Theme Related issue
5.CSS/JS Customization
6.Disabling Cache
7.Disabling CDN

If you discover that an issue is coming from a custom code or 3rd party plugin, kindly consult with a developer or contact the plugin author. Please note that we do not provide support for custom codes and 3rd party plugins.
If none of the above helps, please provide login credentials for your site in a secure note to examine it further, including:

– WordPress Site URL & Login URL
– WordPress Admin username/password

To create a secure note, click the key icon underneath any of your posts.

If you start getting this problem after the update, I would suggest you delete the existing Cornerstone and use the link in the dashboard to automatically install the Cornerstone and check if that resolves your problem or not.

Thanks

Hi

Thanks for getting back to me. I always go through the entire troubleshooting list before I contact support.

In this case I think the Portfolio page (not an archive – this is X) was set up to somehow be the parent of the portfolio posts, but I can’t figure out how it was done. And since it’s not being copied over in the cloning process (and no Cornerstone settings seem to be different) I just need some help in finding how it was done. I can do all custom coding myself if needed.

Login credentials to follow in secure note.

Thanks again for your help.

Hello @designbythink,

You have a slug conflict because you have a Projects page that has a projects slug and you also set the custom URL slug for the portfolio as projects.

The Custom URL Slug should only be project to avoid any conflict.

Best Regards.

Hi

Thanks for getting back to me. This just breaks all the breadcrumbs. Now none of them work. I need help in figuring out how it was set up that the initial 5 portfolio posts could have the Portfolio page as parent.

EDIT: Actually, I don’t think it matters. I’ve just decided to use a manual breadcrumb instead. Thanks again for all your help.
