how do I setup a blog index page?

Thanks for reaching out.

Do you mean a different blog page than the home page? If yes, then please follow this.

1. Go to Admin > Pages > Add New and publish a new page with name eg. Blog.

2. Go to Admin > Settings> Reading > Your homepage displays > A static page (select below) and select the Blog page you created for Posts page. In the same setting, you can also assign your own custom home page.

3. If you’re on Ethos and would like to use its special Filterable Index feature, then you may follow this additional step.

— Go to Theme Options > Ethos > BLOG OPTIONS and turn on the Filterable Index option. Then on the same area, add your categories term IDs in CATEGORY IDS input field. This will create a filter feature based on categories in your blog index page. You can check this https://www.wpwhitesecurity.com/wordpress-tutorial/find-wordpress-category-id/ to find category IDs you prefer.
