Best way to update WP, theme and Cornerstone?

Hi there,
I’ve been hearing different “best practices” to update, when there is a new release of Wordpress, X and Cornerstone. Some people said: Update should take place vom big to small, means WP first, then X, then Cornerstone and other plugins. Someone else said, Cornerstone first, otherwise X won’t work properly. Could you bring some clearness in this, please?
At the moment there is a new X and a new Cornerstone, so which one first?

Thanks for reaching out.

First, create a development site of your live site by cloning it, some hosts have that feature (staging), but if there is none then you’ll have to clone it manually. You can do that by installing All in one migration plugin in your live site and export it as a file, then import that file into another Wordpress installation using the same plugin (installation in a sub-domain or sub-folder which will be your staging).

Second, there is no rule of which should be updated first, but recently, there was an issue in javascript caused by updated cornerstone which prevents validation and updates of the theme. That’s why to recommend deactivation and deletion of a cornerstone to update the theme, then install cornerstone back.

thank you. Actually at the moment there is no way I could create a development site, sounds complex, no knowledge yet. But good to know how things should been done properly. I’ll keep Cornerstone in mind
