Bbpress problem on installation

bbpress installed (X’s approved version) but no settings/options appear on WP dashboard and I’m unable to deactivate or delete the plugin now.

Hi There,

Please check error log first . Let’s if the nature/description of the error. If you can’t deactivate/delete via Plugins on admin, delete itvia FTP instead. Go to this folder wp-content/plugins. Delete the bbpress folder.

Hope this helps.

Where do I find the error log?

Hi,

You can check /var/log/httpd/error_log or /var/log/apache2/error.log

Thanks

I’m sorry but all that is complete gobbledegook to me! Please can you explain in very simple terms what I am supposed to do? I cannot delete bbpress through the WP admin as there is no option to do so showing. There is an option to deactivate but when clicked on I get the following message:

500 - Internal Server Error
This is a temporary server error.
Please try to reload the webpage later.
If you are the webmaster of this site please log in to Cpanel and check the Error Logs. You will find the exact reason for this error there.

Common reasons for this error are:

Incorrect file/directory permissions: Above 755.
In order files to be processed by the webserver, their permissions have to be equal or below 755. You can update file permissions with a FTP client or through cPanel’s File Manager.

Incorrect Apache directives inside .htaccess file.
Make sure you have not specified unsupported directives inside the local .htaccess file. Such include PHP settings and Apache module settings.

I’m really stuck with this. I have managed to delete the bbpress install via FTP, and have now reinstalled the X approved version. But still there is no ‘forums’ option showing on the WP dashboard. However, the previous forum set up, which I could never get to work properly, is now showing up once again on the site here: http://newgestaltvoices.org/forums/. How do I delete that if I can’t access the forums through the WP dashboard and I have already deleted the original install via FTP and reinstalled?!

Hi there,

If you delete bbPress then that URL shouldn’t appear at all. Have you really deleted it? Would you mind providing your FTP login credentials in a secure note?

Originally, the issue is about options right? Maybe it’s due to capability or user role. Would you mind providing your admin login credentials as well?

Thanks!

Yes, I deleted it via FTP. It was, apparently, gone! And then I reinstalled X’s version of bbpress. However, the forum options still did not appear on the WP dashboard. Although the forum icon did appear on the site, showing previous test forums, which as you say, surely shouldn’t be there if I deleted the original installation!

This problem goes back to February - please see my previous support request here: https://theme.co/apex/forums/topic/problem-with-bbpress-installation/. After that I still couldn’t get it to work properly and gave up for the time being - now it is urgent that I get it working!

I’ll provide you with login credentials now in secure note.

Hi there,

What’s the login URL again? It redirects me back to home page when I try to access the login page.

Thanks!

Hi Rad. Apologies for delay in responding - I’m not getting notifications from here that you’ve replied, even though I have it set to ‘Watching’. Details again in secure note.

Hi there,

It still redirects me to your homepage. Please check this video recording https://www.dropbox.com/s/ap9h0mqc8bfyrko/bandicam%202017-10-07%2009-59-54-984.mp4?dl=0

Maybe your site has redirect setting that needs to be removed? I’ll forward the issue about the notification as I can’t directly check it.

Thanks!

Try this…

Hi,

I am able to login now.

I tried installing bbpress in my test site and was able to replicate the issue.

I will forward this to our web development team as a bug.

Thanks

Thank you. Do I need to do anything or will they contact me?

Incidentally, I never receive notifications from this forum that a reply has been posted. I have it set to ‘Watching’ - is there something else I should do to ensure I get them?

Hi,

I’ve submitted this to our issue tracker so the developers are made aware of it.

You’ll just have to wait for the next update of the theme.

With regards to notifications, you can enable it under Forum Account > Profile > Preferences

Thanks
