Background Upper & Lower Layer - Transition Animation

Hello! Is it possible to replicate this effect: https://www.churchofthehighlands.com/easter/?

Can you replicate this slideshow effect by using the background upper and lower layers? Having the upper layer opacity go down and then the lower layer will show, then having it go back up again so the upper layer shows again? Is this possible?

I check the reference page and I don’t see any background transition animation on it and please keep in mind that we don’t have any background transition animation.
