Background images gone on all pages after update

Hi,

I just updated X to 6.3.8 and the background images have all been removed. I went to try and put them back in via Row Settings --> Design Options and when I do the background image is usually a different dimension and shifted weird in one direction with what looks like an overlapped image behind it. Its even affecting buttons placed over the image and taking my text full width of the page in some rows. What do I need to do to get these images back the way they were and correct the content on the page?

I usually have a pretty good grasp on how to fix this stuff but WPBakery is different from the update and I’m having some trouble figuring it out.

Example (1) - image here is supposed to be full width but not nearly that height. Whats with the buttons? I’ve noticed buttons go back to normal when image is removed.

Example (2) Image overlap

Thanks for any help in advance.

Hi There @kodysemrow

Thanks for writing in! I see that you’re using a caching plugin and CSS/JS minifications on your site. Since you’re checking after a recent update, could you please try clearing full server cache and disable your CSS/JavaScript minifications temporarily and re-test your issue again.

Also, since you’re using Visual Composer, head over to WPBakery Page Builder Settings > General and make sure “Legacy X Integration” is enabled.

A common request we get is to not overwrite parts of the WPBakery Page Builder. We are committed to keep supporting sites from the early days of X where Visual Composer was our page builder but we’ve consolidated all that integration code under one setting. It used to be enabled by default, but you will now need to opt-in to using it.

Let us know how it goes.
Thanks!

I did what you suggested (cleared caches, disables minify of JS and CSS, and Enabled Legacy X Integration) and it did seem to fix the overlapping of the images and the problem with my text being full width. However, the buttons are still messed up and its taken a lot of my headline text (but not all) and shifted it to the left. I can’t seem to get it back centered using the options in WPBakery and Style CSS. Any other ideas on what else might be going on?

Example - Orange buttons at the top and very bottom of page and header text 03, 05, 06, and 07.

Thank you for the help thus far!

Hi There,

Would you mind providing us with login credentials(by clicking on the Secure Note button at the bottom) so we can take a closer look? To do this, you can make a post with the following info:

  • Link login to your site
  • WordPress Admin username / password

Thanks.

I have added my login info. It only let me add a secure note to the message previous to your last reply. So that’s where you will find it. Let me know what you find.

Thanks

Hi Kode,

Please remember to clear all caches when updating so that the code from the latest release is always in use. This will help you to avoid any potential errors or any unexpected display issue on the site.

Kindly also try testing for a plugin conflict. You can do this by deactivating all third party plugins, and seeing if the problem remains. If it’s fixed, you’ll know a plugin caused the problem, and you can narrow down which one by reactivating them one at a time.

Let us know how it goes!

I tried deactivating all the third party plugins and that did not change any of the problems I’m having for the better or worse. What is my best plan of action at this point? Should I try to correct each individual problem or is whatever is going on in the background code going to keep causing me problems at this point?

I tried everything I know to try and get my 07 headline on our home page to center and it just won’t do it. Strange since its setup exactly like my 01 headline which is centered just fine. I even tried copying the 01 Row and modifying it for my 07 and it’s still going to the left of the page. Confusing.

Thanks

Hi Kodeblue,

I’d like to check your page but the credentials you provided above does not work, please confirm.

Please check all the content of that page, especially that quotes section there might be an invalid HTML tag, unclose tag somewhere on your content that messing the text-align:center

And I still see that the site is still serving a minified CSS, please clear all your caching plugins and optimizer plugins, and deactivate it for a while so we can easily inspect the styling.

Those weird looking buttons have no labels on it, can you check that out and add labels to those buttons.

I’m also seeing a lot of empty <p> tags that messing the spacing on your page and <p> tags with inline-styling in it just to change the color and size of a text, please don’t do that, use a custom CSS instead, or the text option that VC element offers.

You can find the proper CSS code selector using the Chrome browser Developer Toolbar
For the CSS code itself, I suggest that you get started with this tutorial

Thanks,

Thank you for the advice. I was looking for those empty tags you mentioned in the Classic Text view of my page and I don’t see any that appear to be empty? What should I be looking for?

The login information I gave you IS correct. I just double checked it. Sometimes the first time I try to login is gives me an ERROR message and I have to do it a couple times but it will work.

I apologize for the minified CSS. It is now deactivated and all caches have been emptied. I’m assuming that when I empty all the caches in the W3 Total Cache plugin that that is all of them I need to address correct?

Thanks,

Hey Kody,

Please watch the solution to solve this update issue at https://youtu.be/ur6pO1YrykQ

I’ve applied the same fix with your buttons. Please watch the screencast in the secure note. It might work in the rest of the areas having this issue.

Thanks.

This was extremely helpful. By using a text code editor app I was able to remove all of the [vc_column_text] shortcodes from my pages as recommended. This DID return my pages back to their original state before everything was placed into text boxes. This also fixed the problem I was having with my buttons. However, this did not fix the issue I was having with alignment (buttons and headlines all moved to the left). I found that simply adding a new row and rebuilding each of the messed up elements and then deleting the old one fixed the alignment issues.

Everything is back to normal now and I feel like I have learned a lot. I appreciate your help.

Thank you!

You’re welcome, Kody. Glad we’re able to help.
